Story
Vara Lakshmi’s (Sandhya) brother Annavaram (Pawan Kalyan) dotes on her. They stay in a village. Annavaram arranges the marriage of his sister to a guy from Hyderabad (Siva Balaji). Goons in the city harass Vara Lakshmi and her husband. When his sister comes to his village for delivery, Annavaram goes to Hyderabad. The rest of the story is all about how he eradicates the goons in Hyderabad by the time her sister delivers her baby and returns to Hyderabad.
Artists Performance
Pawan Kalyan: Pawan Kalyan looks adorable as the doting brother. He has donned a role that has two facets. One is as a doting brother who does not want his sister to face any inconvenience. The second one is as the avenger who annihilates the goons in the city with strategic measures. There is perfect chemistry between him and Sandhya as siblings. His performance in the interval episode where he hides the real reason of him going to city is one of his best. His Hyderabadi dialect and mannerisms as Zahangir Khan are very impressive. He is very charming in the cowboy get-up in the 3rd song.
Others: Sandhya is extremely good as the sister. Asin’s role is limited to songs and a few scenes. However, the dubbing done by Savita Reddy with a Telangana dialect is bad. Lal is adequate as the villain. Asish Vidyarthi’s characterization of ‘Tapas Balu’ appears to be more on the comical side than serious. Venu Madhav played the role of Pawan Kalyan’s friend. Nagababu has the role of an ACP who is on a mission to nab the hero. Siva Balaji is adequate. Brahmaji has a strong character role in this film after Khadgam. He is brilliant. Hema performs extremely well in the scene where she confronts her husband. Raghubabu is good as the villain’s sidekick.
Technical Departments:
Story - screenplay - Direction: The basic point of a brother trying to help his sister by eradicating rowdyism in the city is good. The director uses an old-fashioned and time-tested style in narrating the film. He has extracted genuine emotion in some sentimental scenes. The director should have handled the first half better. The following scenes have come out well –
1. Jada thread: The whole thread of Sandhya asking her brother to do that weird thing is hilarious.
2. Strategies to kill kingpins: The three strategies adapted to kill three kingpins in the second half are good. And the dialogue – vaadi debba ela vuntando adagaleda (Pawan to Asish Vidyarthi) is extraordinary
3. The set up for the Mehabooba song
4. Nagababu refusing to give answers to scribes and then saying ‘kalutundi kada’
The following scenes could have been handled better.
1. The scenes after death episode before the interval.
2. Flying panes of glasses in the fight with Asish.
3. Throwing hairs at each other (Nagababu & Asish Vidyardhi).
Other departments: Dialogues by Abburi Ravi are good when you consider the limitations he had for this kind of subject. Music by Ramana Gogula is mediocre. Nevertheless, the variety in picturization has helped in this department. The visuals in the third song and Mehabooba song are good. Background music given Tamil music director Dina is adequate. Cinematography is alright, but camera has moved violently in many scenes. Artwork by Anand Sai is fine.
Analysis: First half of the film will appeal to women with its sister sentiment. The second half has mass appeal. Second half is better than first half. Pawan Kalyan looks refreshing in this film. The plus points of the film are Pawan Kalyan, sentimental scenes with sister and the killing strategies in the second half. On the flip side, the direction of the film is old-fashioned. The Supergood banner knows the secret of attracting middle class and lower middle class crowds. With the advantage of having Pawan Kalyan at the helm, we have to wait and see how effectively Supergood banner takes advantage of it.
