Story
Sachidananda Murthy alias Sachin (Rohit) is an enthusiastic
youngster and an aspiring cricketer. He is son of a
car driver (Chalapati Rao) and belongs to a lower-middle-class
family that lives in a slum area. His father wants him
to study well and earn a government job. But Sachin
wants to become a national level cricketer and play
for India.
Then
there is an honest cricket coach called Vithal Rao (Benarjee)
who spots Sachin in streets and encourages him. There
is Rajiv (Rajiv Kanakala) - son of a state minister
- who becomes a Ranji player using his contacts. Rekha
(Rekha) is the daughter of GK Naidu (Vizag Prasad),
a national cricket selection committee member.
Rajiv
wants to get selected for Indian cricket team and love
Rekha as well. But Sachin - being a prolific cricketer
- becomes a strong obstacle for both these objectives.
The entire film revolves around how Sachin realizes
his dreams.
Artists:
Rohit looks apt for the role. His dancing abilities
are once again utilized in this film. However, the dubbing
voice given to him did not gel well with his body language.
Rekha is good. But the range of her expressions is limited.
Benerjee has done a very good role in this film. Rajiv
Kanakala looks repetitive with the same kind of characters
in all his films. Cricketer Venkatapati Raju gave a
special appearance in this film.
Technicians:
The story by Puri Jagan has got very good elements to
catch the pulses of crowds. However it is the execution
that has dampened the spirits of otherwise a good story.
Screenplay and direction are pretty mediocre. The director
failed to build tempo in cricket match scenes in the
film. The opening comedy scenes on Chalapati Rao and
Sangeeta are of cheap taste. Dialogues by Kona are not
impressive except for the ones written for the heroine
Rekha. Music by Chakri is average. There are a couple
of mass tunes. Photography by senior most cinematographer
VSR Swamy is OK. But, there is so much of lighting inconsistency
in the film (may be due to budgetary constraints to
use good lighting and reflectors).
Analysis:
The film starts on a very routine note. However, the
film gets into interesting mode by the time hero gets
in to each level of cricketing leagues. But the director
failed to cash on the cricketing scenes in this film
though the entire film revolves around cricket with
the climax being the match between India and Pakistan
(juniors).
