Story
Johnny (Pawan Kalyan) is an orphan and a martial arts coach.
He falls in love with another orphan called Geetha (Renu Desai),
who is a teacher. They get married. Later on, it is revealed
that Geetha suffers from blood cancer. She needs lots of money
to get operated. Rest of the story is about how Johnny managed
to get the money through fights to save Geetha.
Artists:
Pawan
Kalyan: Pawan looks good in the get up of Johnny. He did
extremely well in pathos scenes. His antics are very stylish
in the beginning of the film. He did well in fights too. Pawan
Kalyan looks rugged and manly with an exercised body.
Renu
Desai: She is the perfect fit for the role of Geetha.
She looks extremely homely in this film by wearing sarees
and choodidaars. Her histrionics in hospital scenes are worth
applauding.
Others:
Devi Charan is impressive in the debut fight as Chinna Gouse.
MS Narayana is good in the beginning of the film and became
stale later. Mallikharjun did a good character role. Raghuvaran
did the role of Pawan's father. Lalith Dubey did the role
of English-speaking stepmother to Pawan Kalyan. Ali did a
good role. Brahmaji did an unimportant role of police officer.
Technical
Departments:
Story: There is no story in the film. Having the right
kind of twist is very important for any story in the first
half. But, the first half of this film is so plain that if
they put 'The End' card during interval, it does not look
odd. The first drawback of the film is lack of proper storyline.
Screenplay
- Direction: Screenplay of 'Johnny' is pathetic. The scenic
order is chaotic. Direction of the film is good in patches.
The director did a sensible job when portraying the emotional
scenes (from hero's side) in a proper way. The narration of
the film is terribly slow.
Dialogues:
I can't give a comment on these dialogues as most of the dialogues
are not audible due to the 'spot dubbing technique' and other
few dialogues can't be understood by the common Telugu viewer
as they are written in Hyderabadi and Mumbayya Hindi.
Music:
Background music of the film is incomplete. You can find some
part of the film void of any background music. Three songs
- Narazu kaaku, neelo nenoka sagamai and ee
reyi teeyanidi - are good.
Other
departments: Photography by Shyam Palav and Chota K Naidu
is impressive. Editing by Yousuf Khan is not up to the mark.
This film's length is almost 3 hours. Hence it makes you squirm
in your seats. The local fights by Vijay and ring fights by
international Ridley's team are good. The costumes of Pawan
Kalyan are nice. These costumes suited his body language and
his physique. Art by Anand Sai is good. Most of the interiors
in this film are made with wood. The producer Allu Arvind
could have taken more care in the script.
Analysis:
First half of the film is pretty slow. Second half is pathetic.
There is no nativity in the film. The good points on the screen
in this film are 3 songs, fights and the love track between
Pawan and Renu in the first half. Pawan Kalyan lets the viewers
down with his directorial capabilities. The main drawback
of the film is lack of proper story and bad screenplay. One
can watch this film with an academic interest to study how
not to direct a film. This film has all style and no substance.
Normal viewers can safely avoid watching this film.
