Story
Ashok (Venkatesh) and Julie (Kalyani) are childhood
friends. Ashok is like a family member of Julie's family.
They are pretty close and they believe that friendship
is above love. They do not have any love feelings towards
each other. After they grow up Julie's father (Chandra
Mohan) dies and Ashok brings Julie to his house and
she stays along with his family. Nandini (Arti Agarwal)
is from a rich family and Ashok falls in love with her
and they get married. The rest of film revolves around
how Ashok and Nandini get Julie married.
Artists
Performence
Venkatesh:
It's a tailor made role and you can't imagine any
other actor doing justice to the role. It's a Venky's
character all the way. He did his typical slow steps
in the songs. He did a very likable and most natural
character in this film after 'Nuvvu Naaku Nachav'. He
enlivened the sympathetic character with élan
and in the process he ends up in getting sympathies
of the audience as well. Venky's costumes in this film
are very attractive.
Arti
Agarwal: This film is a welcoming change from a
glam doll character to a demure role for Arti Agarwal.
She played the role of an obedient and dutiful wife's
role in this film. She looks very homely. However, she
should seriously consider slimming down a bit to last
longer in Tollywood. She has so much of craze among
the audiences that she got almost applause at par with
Venkatesh from the masses when she appeared on the screen
for the first time.
Kalyani:
Kalyani donned the role of a homely looking Christian
girl. She did not have make up and bindi (bottu) to
suit the role. Though she had a very good footage in
the film, her role did not have any score for exhibiting
great histrionics. But, everybody would agree that Kalyani
is a perfect fit for the role of Julie.
Jai
Akash: Akash is a surprise pack of this film. He
appears only 4 times in this film. His acting in the
climax is an asset to this film.
Others:
Chandra Mohan played a lovable character of Kalyani's
father. Siva Reddy and Sunil played the roles of hero's
sidekicks. Dharmavarapu Subramanyam had a separate comedy
track in this film in the combination with Sunil and
Siva Reddy. The comedy generated by Hema and Surya in
the second half is hilarious. Master Teja - as the childhood
hero - performed well. VVS Laxman appeared in a 1 minute
role as a cricket coach for Venky. He did his own dubbing.
Technical
Departments:
Story: The story in the first half of the film reminds
us of the Chiranjeevi's 'Iddaru Mitrulu' storyline.
The climax scene is little similar to Raja. The main
thread of the story is very simple.
Screenplay - direction: Director Vikraman proved
again why he is called as the master of 'screenplay'.
With a simple and yet unconvincing basic storyline,
he had woven the scenes in such a way that he convinces
that the relationship between Kalyani and Venkatesh
is just friendship and no love. This film is an out
and out 'Vikraman' film with deft screenplay and good
direction. He proved a point again, that a film can
become a good entertainer without even having a single
fight or a mass dialogue. There is one particular scene
where Arti Agarwal challenges her sister about the ability
of her husband to become big in life. That particular
scene made the masses go gaga over it.
Music:
Vikraman knows how to extract the right music for his
films from SA Raj Kumar. All the songs are good in the
film with neat picturization. 'Ammo Ammayena' tune is
repeatedly used as a communicator for the love episodes
between Venkatesh with Arti. 'Gaali Chirugaali' tune
is effectively used to highlight the relationship and
emotions between Venkatesh and Kalyani. The songs are
very well knitted in to the storyline of the film. Background
music is apt.
Dialogues:
Dialogues by Chintapally Ramana are appropriate for
serious scenes and hilarious for comedy ones. The way
he defines how friendship is bigger than love is very
convincing and justified the basic point of the film.
Vikraman wrote the dialogues for Tamil version and Chintapally
Ramana has used those dialogues to nativize them in
Telugu without losing the real essence and flavor.
Camera:
Photography of the film is good. The foreign locations
in the songs are well captured.
Production:
The producers Sanam Naga Ashok Kumar and NV Prasad maintained
good production standards for bringing out this film
as a good entertainer.
Analysis:
The movie starts off with the childhood of Venkatesh
and Kalyani and story is built up slowly by establishing
the characters of Venkatesh and Kalyani along with their
families. Arti shows up in the film after two songs
are over. With entry of Arti Agarwal's character, the
pace of Vasantham gains momentum. The climax of the
film is excellent. The strengths of this film are perfecting
casting, good screenplay and soothing music. The only
drawback of the film is that there is nothing new in
terms of the storyline. This film is clean and would
definitely appeal to the family crowds and ladies. Vasantham
is a hit for sure. The magnitude of the hit depends
on how well the family crowds embraces this entertainer.
You can watch this film by taking your entire family.
