This film produced by Maniratnam, has a title that indicates
the percussion sound of a marriage band. Director Alagam Perumal
makes an entertaining film, helped by good dialogues. There
are number of characters and the dialogue writer takes credit
for the humor vein that runs through the drama. The base provided
to build this drama is an improbable situation, but has enough
potential to kick off the humor machine.
A boy and a girl, whose respective fathers decide to get them
married without their consent, come together to burst their
scheme. Aditya (Madhavan) and Ganga(Jyotika) make this strange
pair to be wed as the relationship between Aditya's father
Balaramayya and Ganga's father Venkatapathy is like master
and his most trusted lieutenant. Venkatapathy's daughter Ganga
gets through her exams with flying colours and aspires to
continue her studies further. Aditya on the other hand is
also not in a hurry to get married as he feels he wants to
enjoy his student life. Therefore both meet at a place and
agree to disagree for the marriage proposal.
The film is highly engaging. Jyotika's character portrayal
is invested with lot of mime. Her static expressions however
are boring at times. Madhavan's is a flamboyant and talkative
role. There are characters earmarked for pure humor, like
the role of Swamy who is an odd job man in Balaramayya's house.
Mani
Vannan gets a peculiar role of a lawyer. Every character is
presented in a satirical way, which is the film's strength.
Each artiste performs with the ease. The other artistes include
Vivek, Murali, V.K. Ramaswamy, Delhi Kumar, Kalpana and others.
Music by Kartik Raja is pleasing and the picturization of
each song is sensible and attractive. Photographic work is
another technical asset of the film.
