Gudipoodi Srihari Review

This is an unusual story that upholds friendship as the most sacred of all relationships. Balu (Sivaji), around whom the story revolves, believes strongly in the virtue called friendship. He even argues with his father (Narra Venkateswara Rao) that friends are as important to him as parents.

The four friends (played by Ali, Sri Harsha, Naveen and Sivaji), however, are quite close to each other. Delineating each one's romantic pursuits must have been a Herculean task for scriptwriter Chintapalli Ramana. Most of the dialogues are filled with fun and frolic, each teasing the other or getting teased.

Enters Siddhu (Rajeev Kanakala) in the second part of the film and remains hooked to the friends. He also emerges as the central character in the drama. Balu's aim is to go to the U.S.A. However, his love for Swapna (Amrita), a dancer, brings Raghuram into focus, as he also loves the same girl. The contenders vie with each other for hand.

Meanwhile, Balu gets his visa and just when he was about to board the plane, he gets to know that Siddhu has met with a serious accident and is battling for life in the hospital. The surgeon advises a brain operation, involving a huge sum, to save him.

The friends are already rooted in financial problems having borrowed from a ruthless moneylender, Boxer Baba (Brahmanandam). This character is created solely for entertainment. How the friends gather the needed amount forms the rest of the story.

It is more a time pass drama, but for those last few reels. The dialogue and scenic structure are meant more for entertainment. Rajeev, Sivaji, Sri Harsha play roles of performance value, while the girls, except Amrutha, cast opposite them fail to register. Brahmanandam ingeniously uses well his moneylender's role to create humour. Sasi Preetham's music has a soothing effect.
