It is all about the power of love that can change a hardened
criminal into a good human. There are two forces that help
him in the transformation - a lover and a police commissioner.
Director Saran also adds a sentimental angle by introducing
an aged woman (sujatha) to serve as a catalyst. A co-production
of AVM and Suresh productions, the film is a remake of AVM's
Super-hit film Gemini in Tamil. Posani Krishnamurali transliterated
the Tamil dialogue into Telugu while a star cast is a mixture
of recruits from Telugu film industry and also those who has
already played roles in the Tamil original. While most of
the original tunes are retained in the remake, three songs
are freshly written and composed by R.P. Patnaik. Thus, it
is a fusion of Tamil and Telugu thoughts that went into the
making of Telugu Gemini. The film curiously combines romance
and comic villainy. The film takes off, like most action films,
with the fight scene between Gemini (Venkatesh) and a gang
led by one Ladda (Kalabhavan Mani). Kalabhavana Mani appears
to be more at home in mimicry art than in playing a villain's
role. In the later part of the drama, Gemini's encounters
with Manisha (Bhairavi), brings her close to his heart. On
learning that she is studying at an evening college, he gets
an admission there. Manisha slowly falls for Gemini, unaware
of his background. She being a Marwadi girl, Gemini too gets
a taste of the culture. Her father is a moneylender, who lends
money to one of Gemini's friends and is now harassing him
to repay, reason enough for Gemini to enter that household.
Meanwhile, the encounters between Ladda and Gemini draw the
attention of the city police commissioner Viswanath (Murali).
He captures both, puts them in the same cell and then tries
to brainwash them to change their ways. Gemini responds positively,
while Ladda does not. At one stage, Ladda blackmails Gemini
to help him loot Naizam's Jewellery displayed at an exhibition.
Will Gemini's attempts to wriggle out of the web of criminal
life and win over Manisha, become successful or not one has
to watch out on has to watch out on the big screen. Kota Srinivasa
Rao gets a small role of a junior to the police commissioner
and plays a rogue. Songs are well picturised and sound fresh,
especially those rendered by S.P. Balasubrahmanyam. The group
song and dance scenes are quite interesting.
Two artistes stand out in performances - Venkatesh and Kalabhavan
Mani - who finally turn out to be the major histrionic attraction.
Murali lends dignity to the role of police commissioner. Bhiravai
is quite charming and suits the mode of the drama. Sujatha
plays a purposeful role and leaves her mark.
