The film is clearly influenced by Vamsee's Avunu Vaalliddaru
Ishtapaddaru in the rural comedy structure and Hindi film
Lagaan that uses a sport to settle an issue. The first half
is devoted to establish the characters, dominated by native
comedy that also tends to be a bit crude. But it is the second
half where a love story takes off that entertains and make
us feel the film is worth our money.

The characters are as many as we find in a kabaddi team. Almost
every character turns into a kabaddi player in a match. Therefore,
their behavior is first established so as to suit the style
of kabaddi game. For example, one of them is a "hen catcher"
and his tact becomes handy in the game of kabaddi to catch
the opponents. There is a drillmaster (M.S. Narayana) in the
village. He is dismissed from service. He is the man who trains
the assortment of these young and middle-aged men in kabaddi.
So similar to cricket training camp in Lagaan. Yet director
Venky, a new hand, handles these scenes with touch of authenticity
both in the art of playing the game and in the earlier training
schedules. He keeps the entertaining element in view and keeps
us engaged. The sentimental part also is played up well.

So the reason for playing kabaddi? Rambabu (Jagapati Babu)
visits a neighboring village and falls in love with a girl
Kaveri (Kalyani), sister of the village landlord (Surya).
The big brother insults Rambabu and challenges him to play
the game of Kabaddi with a team from his village if he wants
to win the hand of his sister. The putting together of a team
and their training is what best presented by the director
along with the building up of romance between Rambabu and
                    Kaveri.

The songs are well scored by Chakri, who also shows a deft
hand in providing appropriate musical backdrop for the drama.
Again it is Jagapathi Babu who's in the limelight with Kalyani
looking like a typical village girl, impressing well with
her performance. Brahmanandam appears in the comedy track,
which runs separately from the main story line. Godavari delta
of the coastal area proved perfect backdrop for this enjoyable
                    rural drama with good photography.
