Upendra gets a totally different role from what he had played
before. He plays a simple guy in love with a girl. But the
surprise element - and a novel one too - is the use of computer
in bringing two people together. On-line marriage has come
of age.
Ravi(Upendra) tries to interview a girl in the US on the issue
of marriage. She says she is a postgraduate in psychology
and could assess that Ravi is already in love with another
girl and closes the talk with 'best wishes'
And this 'other girl' is a mysterious figure. Director Prabhakar
hides her from the eyes of the audience, purposely, and reveals
her only in silhouettes. The girl on the screen calls him
Subba Rao. And Subba Rao calls her Subbalakshmi. These mischievous
names are the names used for these two characters. Which means
each is not aware of the other's real name. At one stage she
reveals to him her eyes in close-up. That is enough for him
to fall in love with her. Now it is for him to discover and
identify her, a challenge she has thrown to him, with a promise
that she will kiss him, if he succeeds.
This Subbalakshmi arrives in India with her real name Aparna
(Rachana). Like Ravi, she too is a software expert and programmer.
She gets a job in a firm as programme manager. Into the same
company, enter Ravi as another programmer and working directly
under Aparna. She recognizes him as her man Subba Rao. But
he fails to recognize his Subbalakshmi. Now, things move further
in this 'hide and seek' game into a disastrous direction.
Ravi mistakes another girl he sees as his sweetheart. She
is Divya (Sangavi), who happens to be his fan, admiring his
boxing skills. And Aparna watches Ravi planting a kiss on
Divya thinking that she is his woman.
Now it is fast forward. Divya's marriage is arranged with
Ravi. A flashback reveals that Aparna is brought up by Divay's
mother, when Aparna's father, a soldier, goes to war and never
returns. Aparna decides to sacrifice. Rest of the film shows
the inner conflict in Aparna. It is a kind of riddle as to
who finally marries Ravi. The last part is reserved for action
drama, featuring Thriller Manju as Ravi's rival in the ring.
The film is interesting as long as the hide and seeks game
goes on. The arrival of the character of Divya, sets the drama
in routine course. The narration loses grip. Upendra with
his long, flowing hair, entertains the audience.
Rachana looks good in well-chosen photographic angles. She
performs well. Sanghavi too offers impressive portrayal, though
hers is a smaller role. Marudhuri Raja's dialogue is engaging.
In minor roles Sudhakar, Tanikella, Sivaparvati, Subbarya
Sarma and others leave their mark.
