Gopichand’s latest film Ranam completed 50 days in and 100 days in 24 centers. Producer Pokuri Babu Rao arranged 100 days function of the film in Ravi Narayana Reddy auditorium tonight. Dasari, D Rama Naidu and Venkatesh attended this function as chief guests.
Out of 13 Eetaram films 12 are hits – Pokuri Babu Rao
Speaking on the occasion producer Pokuri Babu Rao said, “We established Eetaram banner in 1983 and made Neti Bharatam as our first film. It been 25 years and we made 13 films on this banner so far. 12 of the 13 films turned out to be hits. Like all our earlier films Ranam is the result of good team work. T Krishna started this banner with the vision of making left oriented and social awareness films. We are following his path. Paruchuri Gopala Krishna came forward and directed the film Prajaswamyam when I was depressed with the sad demise of T Krishna. On this occasion I am going to felicitate all the directors who worked in Eetaram banner.”
Prajaswamyam was supposed to be directed by T Krishna – Paruchuri
Paruchuri Gopala Krishna said, “I wanted to become director and made Kathanayakudu script for that purpose. It was later made with Bala Krishna as hero in somebody else direction. Then I made Pratidwani script to direct a film and it was later directed by B Gopal. Prajaswamyam was the 3rd script made with my directorial debut in mind. T Krishna wanted to direct the film and he died before it materialized. Pokuri Babu Rao asked me to direct the film and it won 3rd best film award. I am happy that Gopichand is living up to the standards of his father T Krishna.”
Writer MVS Haranadha Rao said, “We used to act in stage plays during our student days. I remember the days when T Krishna used to go to Madras and come back by watching films by K Bala Chandar. He was so excited that he used to say that he would make films like Bala Chandar.”
Dasari wanted to direct ‘Son of India’ with Gopichand as hero – R Narayana Murthy
R Narayana Murthy said, “Dasari wanted to make a film titled ‘Son of India’ with Gopichand as hero and I went as messenger to convey the news to Gopichand. But Gopichand rejected because he is afraid of acting under the direction of Dasari. Gopichand has achieved considerably in his career and he should continue acting in good films. I request Dasari to do something about the restriction imposed on smoking and animal usage in films. Films like Fanaa and The Da Vinci Code are being banned. I wish that Dasari will use his influence at the center regarding lifting of these restrictions and bans.”
Director Amma Raja Sekhar said, “I added Amma to my name because I feel that mother is like a God. I would like to thank producer Babu Rao for giving me this opportunity.”
D Rama Naidu said, “I saw the film and liked the comedy and entertainment. Pokuri Babu is a sincere producer with an eye for good planning. Gopichand has become star with this film.”
I became a fan of Gopichand by watching Nijam - Venkatesh
Hero Venkatesh said, “I am very happy about the success of Ranam film. I knew Raja Sekhar from Kaliyuga Pandavudu days as dancer. He always knew the pulses of masses. I expected him to become big one day and I am very happy that he proved himself as successful director with his debut film. I became a fan of Gopichand after watching his performance in Jayam film.”
Venkatesh is the only hero I like - Gopichand
Hero Gopichand said, “I received my first film related award from Dasari at a private function in Guntur. I am a huge fan of Venkatesh since Kaliyuga Pandavudu and I never missed a film after that. I watch Venkatesh’s films in my spare time to learn from him. Venkatesh is the only hero I like. Amma Rajasekhar narrated me this subject right after Jayam film. I was hesitant to do it. I got confidence to do film with him after Yagnam film.”
T Krishna belongs to the league of Santaram and Raj Kapoor - Dasari
Guest Dasari said, “T Krishna got lot of name and fame with just seven films (6 Telugu and 1 Kannada). He was one of those new wave directors. T Krishna is one director who made a balance between art and commerce. Even directors like Satyajit Ray could not achieve it. Satyajit Ray made good art films and those films did not do well commercially. Santa Ram and Raj Kapoor are the directors who could mix art and commerce judiciously. Orey Riksha subject was supposed to be director by T Krishna with Narayana Murthy as hero. I had to direct it after Krishna’s demise. All films by Eetaram movies do not generate hit talk on day one. The target audiences come to theaters only in the second week. From then onwards films do pick up. Ranam film has little story, but the characterization of the hero is novel. Climax of the film is unusual and good. Gopichand will have bright future ahead. There used to be two different types of heroes. NTR and ANR ruled industry at one point. NTR cannot do ANR kinds of roles and vice versa. The same strategy is followed Krishna and Sobhan Babu in the following era. After that every hero wanted to be another Chiranjeevi. Only Nagarjuna and Venkatesh created separate niche for themselves. Mahesh Babu is doing variety roles in the new generation. Gopichand too is making sure that he would not stick to one genre and doing radically different films like Ranam and Yagnam. Our Telugu film industry should protest against ban on smoking and usage of animals/birds in films. At present around 56 films are stalled at censor board because of animal usage.”
Chief guests (Dasari, D Rama Naidu and Venkatesh) felicitated Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, Muthyala Subbaiah, Mohana Gandhi, Muppalaneni Siva, AS Ravi Kumar Chowdary and MVS Haranadha Rao). They also felicitated Rajamani (mother of director Amma Raja Sekhar).
