The prestigious Geetha Arts has taken the mantle of dubbing and releasing Hindi latest box office smash, Chhaava on March 7. The production house, in the past, tasted success by releasing films like 2018 (Malayalam) and Kantara (Kannada) in Telugu.

At an event in Hyderabad on Monday, GA2 chief Bunny Vas was asked if Geetha Arts will make a historical film like Chhaava. “I like the story of Nagamma from Palnadu. If I get a chance I will definitely do it,” he said.

Vas believes that Telugu directors and actors can cast a spell at the Indian box office if they make historical films. “If Telugu makers make historical subjects, they will become India’s biggest blockbusters because our directors and actors have that potential. Commercially as well we have that bandwidth.”

Will we get to see their in-house hero Allu Arjun spearheading such subjects? “To get his dates right now, we have to wait for three-four years. And we have to risk a minimum of Rs 1,000 crore. Given Allu Aravind’s age and his happy state of mind, I don’t know whether he will take up such projects. I have to wait and see.”

Vas, whose recent release Thandel struck gold at the box office, doesn’t see a future for commercial format films. “In the next five years, there is a bleak future for commercial format films. Quality and if you don’t pick stories of the soil, there won’t be a future for you as a filmmaker. Like previously you can’t make commercial films now,” he opined.
