Pawan Kalyan clarified that the character of Hari Hara Veera Mallu is entirely fictional. He noted that several comparisons are being made on social media, suggesting it is the story of historical figures like Sarvai Papanna or other warriors. However, he emphasized that the core of the story lies in how the precious Kohinoor diamond, once discovered along the Krishna river, passed from the Qutb Shahi dynasty to the Mughals. The film subtly explores this journey. It also touches upon historical injustices — such as Hindus being forced to pay taxes to practice their faith - and depicts the oppressive nature of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, who didn’t hesitate to kill even his own blood relatives. At its heart, the film tells the story of a warrior who fought for his people and for Dharma.

Q&A Highlights with Pawan Kalyan

Q: Can we say this film has been made with the theme of Sanatana Dharma in mind?
A: Absolutely. This film portrays the atrocities of a brutal emperor like Aurangzeb, who even killed his own brother. It highlights the struggles of Hindus, who had to pay taxes to live by their faith, and the fight to protect Dharma. It is the story of a warrior who rises to protect righteousness.

Q: Is it difficult to juggle films, governance, and politics as a Deputy Chief Minister?
A: Politics is the top priority of my life. Films come next. It is cinema that gave me my livelihood. It is through films that I earned a living and found purpose.

Q: For the first time, you have aggressively promoted a film. What changed?
A: This film is special. It faced numerous challenges — natural calamities, political obstacles, human setbacks — yet it withstood everything. The producers showed immense courage. Standing by them and promoting this film is my responsibility.

Q: It’s said you faced several difficulties during the film’s production?
A: Absolutely. During the shoot, I faced many political hurdles. I was even detained at a hotel in Visakhapatnam. Ticket prices for my films were unfairly slashed to ₹10–₹15 by the previous government. In Rayalaseema, those in power would target people financially by cutting down their economic roots. Many attempts were made to harm me and the producers who worked with me suffered. Despite all that, I’m glad the film is finally releasing.

Q: How do you compare the conditions now with when the film began?
A: Filmmaking itself is a struggle. We experienced that at every stage of this production.

Q: In the previous government, ticket prices were slashed for your films. Now that they’ve been increased, what’s your take?
A: Like every film, ticket prices were increased fairly. There was no special increase for my film. The government considers the efforts and investments of producers before approving any hike.

Q: This is your first film after becoming Deputy CM. Will you show it to your colleagues — MLAs, MLCs, MPs, and Ministers?
A: I hadn’t thought of it until now. That’s a great suggestion. I’ll definitely arrange a special screening for my fellow public representatives.

Q: Your film Johnny was a failure. Reports suggest you directed the final scenes of Hari Hara Veera Mallu yourself. How do you compare both experiences?
A: The failure of Johnny shaped my political journey. As soon as it flopped, I called buyers and financiers to settle dues. I remained silent for a long time. That experience taught me how to face defeat — a lesson that helped me in politics. Johnny made me realize that only when you overcome failure can you achieve your goals.

Q: Will this film face a theatre shortage like other big films? And will there be a Part 2?
A: There will be no theatre shortage. I’ve never faced that issue. As for Part 2, 20% of the shoot is already complete.

Q: Will you continue making films while being active in politics?
A: That depends on the will of God. If He blesses it, anything is possible. We cannot predict the future.

Q: What must be done to help the Telugu film industry grow in Andhra Pradesh like it has in Hyderabad?
A: Like Hyderabad, we need to grow the Telugu film industry in Andhra Pradesh. Infrastructure and amenities are crucial. Especially film schools — they can create opportunities, boost production, and expand careers in cinema.

హరిహర వీరమల్లు చిత్రం సనాతన ధర్మం అనే కాన్సెప్టును దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకొని చిత్రీకరించిన చిత్రం అనుకోవచ్చా..?
– సొంత తమ్ముణ్ణి సైతం అత్యంత క్రూరంగా చంపిన ఔరంగజేబు వంటి క్రూరమైన మొగల్ చక్రవర్తి దాష్టీకాలను చూపించిన సినిమా. ధర్మం కోసం పోరాడిన యోధుడి సినిమా. హిందువుగా బతకాలంటే పన్ను కట్టాల్సిన పరిస్థితిలో ధర్మాన్ని కాపాడేందుకు చేసే పోరాటం ఈ సినిమాలో చూపించాం.

ఉప ముఖ్యమంత్రిగా ఇటు సినిమాలు, అటు పాలన, మరోపక్క రాజకీయాలు చేయడం ఇబ్బందిగా అనిపించడం లేదా..?
– రాజకీయాలకే నా జీవితంలో మొదటి ప్రాధాన్యం ఇస్తాను. దాని తర్వాత సినిమాలు. నాకు వచ్చింది సినిమాల్లో నటించడమే. నాకు అన్నం పెట్టింది, బతుకుదెరువు ఇచ్చింది సినిమాలే.

గతంలో ఎన్నడూ లేనట్లుగా ఈ సారి హరిహర వీరమల్లు కోసం ప్రత్యేకంగా ప్రమోషన్లకు దిగారు. ఈ మార్పుకు గల కారణం..?
– ఈ సినిమా చాలా ప్రత్యేకమైంది. ఎన్నో ఆటుపోట్లను ఎదుర్కొని చిత్ర నిర్మాణం సాగింది. ప్రకృతి విపత్తులు, మానవ విపత్తులు, రాజకీయ విపత్తులను తట్టుకొని నిలబడింది. నిర్మాతలు చాలా విషయాల్లో గుండె ధైర్యంతో నిలబడ్డారు. ఇంత ధైర్యంగా నిలబడిన నిర్మాతకు అండగా నిలబడటం నా కర్తవ్యంగా భావించాను. ప్రమోషన్లు చేయడం నా బాధ్యతగా భావించాను.

ఈ సినిమా చేస్తున్నపుడు అనేక ఇబ్బందులు పడినట్లున్నారు..?
– సినిమా నిర్మాణ సమయంలో రాజకీయంగా ఎన్నో ఆటుపోట్లు ఎదుర్కొన్నాను. విశాఖలో నన్ను హోటల్ లో నిర్భందించడం వంటి కీలకమైన పరిణామాలు జరిగాయి. అలాగే నా సినిమా టిక్కెట్లను రూ.10, రూ.15లకు తగ్గించి గత పాలకులు ఇబ్బందులు పెట్టారు. సీమలో ఎవరికైనా పగలు ఉంటే చీని చెట్లను నరికి వారి ఆర్థిక మూలాలపై దెబ్బతీసే అలవాటు ఉన్న గత పాలకుల ఆలోచన విధానాలతో నాతో సినిమాలు చేసిన నిర్మాతలు చాలా నష్టపోయారు. నన్ను పూర్తిగా దెబ్బతీయడానికి నానా రకాల ప్రయత్నాలు జరిగాయి. ఇలా అన్ని విషయాలను అధిగమించి ఇప్పుడు ఈ చిత్రం బయటకు రావడం ఆనందంగా ఉంది.

ఈ సినిమా మొదలు పెట్టినప్పుడున్న పరిస్థితులు, ఇప్పుడున్న పరిస్థితులు భిన్నంగా అనిపించాయా..?
– సినిమా చేయడమే పెద్ద సంఘర్షణ. దీన్ని నిత్యం అనుభవిస్తూనే ముందుకు వెళతాం. ఈ చిత్ర నిర్మాణంలోనే ఎన్నో సంఘర్షణలు ఎదుర్కొన్నాం.

మీ సినిమాలకు గత ప్రభుత్వంలో తక్కువ ధరకు టిక్కెట్లు అమ్మితే, ఇప్పుడు టిక్కెట్ రేట్లు పెరిగిన విషయాన్ని ఎలా చూస్తారు..?
– అన్ని సినిమాలకు పెరిగినట్లుగానే నా సినిమాకు పెరిగాయి. కేవలం నా సినిమాకు ప్రత్యేకంగా టిక్కెట్ రేట్ల పెంపు ఇవ్వలేదు. నిర్మాతల కష్టం, వారి శ్రమ అన్ని పరిగణనలోకి తీసుకొని సినిమాలకు టిక్కెట్ రేట్ల పెంపునకు ప్రభుత్వం అనుమతి ఇస్తోంది.

ప్రస్తుతం డిప్యూటీ సీఎం అయిన తర్వాత వస్తున్న మొదటి చిత్రం ఇది. దీన్ని మీ తోటి సహచరులైన ఎమ్మెల్యేలు, ఎమ్మెల్సీలు, ఎంపీలు, మంత్రులకు చూపిస్తారా..?
– నాకు ఇప్పటి వరకు ఈ ఆలోచన రాలేదు. మంచి సూచన చేశారు. కచ్చితంగా నా సహచరులైన ప్రజాప్రతినిధుల కోసం ప్రత్యేకంగా షో వేసే ఏర్పాటు చేస్తాను.

జానీ సినిమా నిరాశ మిగిల్చింది. మళ్లీ ఇప్పుడు హరిహర వీరమల్లు చిత్రంలో చివరి సీన్లు మీరే తీసినట్లు చెబుతున్నారు..? అప్పటికీ ఇప్పటికీ మీ అనుభవం ఏంటీ..?
– జానీ సినిమా ఫలితం నా రాజకీయ జీవితంలో మరింత రాటుదేలేలా నన్ను మార్చిందని చెప్పొచ్చు. సినిమా ఫ్లాప్ టాక్ వచ్చిన వెంటనే నేను బయ్యర్లు, ఫైనాన్సియర్స్ అందరినీ ఇంటికి పిలిచి సెటిల్ చేశాను. చాలా రోజులపాటు నిశ్శబ్దంగా ఉండిపోయాను. ఆ రోజు జానీ చిత్ర ఫలితం నాకు రాజకీయాల్లో అపజయం వచ్చినపుడు దాన్ని తట్టుకొని ఎలా ముందుకు సాగాలో నేర్పించింది. జీవితంలో వచ్చే అపజయాలను దాటితేనే.. నువ్వు లక్ష్యాన్ని చేరుకోగలవు అనేది జానీ చిత్రంతో నాకు అవగతమైంది. తర్వాత రాజకీయ జీవితాల్లో స్ఫూర్తి పాఠం అయింది.

మీ సినిమాకు ఇతర సినిమాల మాదిరిగా థియేటర్ల కొరత సమస్య ఉంటుందా..? హరిహర వీరమల్లు చిత్రం పార్ట్ 2 అవకాశం ఉందా..?
– థియేటర్ల కొరత ఏమీ ఉండబోదు. సినిమాలకు థియేటర్లు ఇవ్వరనేది నాకు ఎప్పుడు ఎదురుకాలేదు. హరిహర వీరమల్లు పార్ట్ – 2 కూడా 20 శాతం చిత్రీకరణ పూర్తయింది.

రాజకీయాల్లో ఉంటూనే ఇకపై చిత్రాలను చేస్తారా..?
– అది భగవదేచ్ఛ. ఆయన ఆశీస్సులు ఉంటే ఏదైనా సాధ్యమవుతుంది. భవిష్యత్తు గురించి ఇప్పుడే మనం అంచనా వేయలేం కదా..?

హైదరాబాద్ మాదిరిగా ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ లో సినిమా పరిశ్రమ పెరగాలంటే ఏం చేయాలి..?
– హైదరాబాద్ మాదిరిగా ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ లో తెలుగు చిత్ర పరిశ్రమ పెరగాల్సిన అవసరం ఉంది. దీనికి తగిన వసతులు, సౌకర్యాల కల్పనకు ప్రాధాన్యం ఇస్తాం. ముఖ్యంగా ఇక్కడ ఫిల్మ్ స్కూల్స్ పెరిగితే బాగుంటుంది. దీనివల్ల చిత్ర నిర్మాణాలు పెరుగుతాయి. అవకాశాలు విస్తృతం అవుతాయి.
