Just when you thought one trailer of Kalki 2898 AD was enough, the makers on Friday dropped the release trailer, increasing the anticipation surrounding the movie a notch higher. The brand new trailer is emotional and tries to offer a peek into the film’s story, its world and the major characters.
Spanning more than two minutes, it opens with Ashwatthama (played by Amitabh Bachchan), with unmatched intensity, saying that the time has come. “They say the whole universe resides within God. But God himself resides in your womb,” he adds, addressing Deepika Padukone’s character. There are forces (Complex) that are ready to kill Deepika’s child but Ashwatthama is there to protect her. It looks like the Complex hires Bhairava (Prabhas) to bring Deepika to them but then he has to go through Ashwatthama which is an easier said than done task. Bhairava dreams of going to the Complex after the completion of this job. As he and Ashwatthama battle it out, we get to see a money shot of universal hero Kamal Haasan as supreme Yashkin. He looks completely unrecognizable. Kudos to whoever’s done the prosthetic makeup on him. The trailer later transitions to the Complex and Shambala forces engaged in a fierce battle while an emotional song plays in the background invoking Lord Krishna. It concludes with Bhairava reiterating that he hasn’t lost a single fight until now and he will not lose the present one as well. It looks like Nag Ashwin has explored a new dimension of Prabhas with the film.
With an emotional core that runs throughout its narrative, breathtaking action sequences and the fusion of sci-fi with mythological elements, the brand new trailer promises an adrenaline-fuelled cinematic journey. The principal cast– Amitabh, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika– are at the top of their game, while Santosh Narayanan’s score enhances the trailer’s mystic appeal further.
