Having completed a couple of schedules so far, the team of Varun Tej-top-lined Matka, directed by Palasa 1978 fame Karuna Kumar, is gearing up for a new schedule from next week. “The schedule will commence on June 12th in Ramoji Film City, where multiple sets have been erected. The outing is a major one for the unit as they will shoot for 40 days with occasional set breaks in between. The principal cast– Varun Tej, Meenakshi Chowdary, Nora Fatehi, Naveen Chandra, Kannada Kishore and Ajay Ghosh etc– will be a part of the schedule, which will witness close to 80 percent of the film being wrapped up. Talkie portions and songs will be shot in this leg,” a source close to the development tells us.

The source adds that the makers are ecstatic about the footage they’ve got from the schedules they’ve shot until now and are looking to complete the entire film by the end of September.

A form of gambling, Matka’s story, set in the backdrop of Vizag, unfolds during the 1958-1982 time period and is based on a real incident that sent shock waves across the nation. As the story unfurls from 1958 to 82, Varun will be seen in four different get-ups. Karuna Kumar did a mountain of research for the project, which is a GV Prakash musical.

Earlier this January the makers unveiled a small glimpse– Opening Bracket– from the film and it was showered with a lot of adulation. A production venture of Vyra Entertainments in association with Rajani Talluri’s SRT Entertainments, the film will be released in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi languages.
