After the pan-India blockbuster HanuMan, young actor Teja Sajja is back to test his luck at the box office with another ambitious project, Mirai, releasing on September 12. As part of the film’s promotions, Teja gave an interview to Idlebrain Jeevi, where he spoke in detail about his journey from a child artist to a full-fledged hero.

Teja, who appeared alongside top stars in his early years, shared several insights from his long-standing career. Interestingly, he signed Mirai even before the release of HanuMan and dedicated himself fully to this film. He underwent special training for dangerous action sequences and performed them himself without using body doubles.

He remarked that getting such opportunities — which many actors don’t get even once — is a blessing, and quoted director VV Vinayak, saying:

“Getting a chance to play a hero is the result of good deeds from a previous birth.”

He lives by that mantra and is willing to work as hard as necessary. Teja also hinted that his HanuMan character might have potential for future story extensions.

Speaking about Mirai, he said:

“We are introducing 2–3 concepts that have never been seen before on Indian cinema screens. We also shot in locations that haven’t been explored earlier.”

He praised the unique combination of Manchu Manoj, an intense performer, and Karthik Gattamneni, a stylish director, stating that Mirai shaped up superbly under their collaboration.

“The train sequence shown in the teaser was shot entirely in real locations — not on sets. With Mirai, we aim to deliver high moments comparable to those in Salaar and HanuMan.”

He added that Mirai is an attempt to narrate our mythological values through the lens of action and fantasy, and that divinity is inseparable from Indian life — whether good or bad happens, we instinctively think of God. That cultural foundation is what Mirai is built on.

Teja clarified that he has no insecurities as an actor and always prioritizes team benefit over personal spotlight. He also said he welcomes constructive feedback on social media, but feels disheartened when baseless hate is directed even at self-made individuals.

On the IIFA Controversy:

“The entire program on that day was scripted and rehearsed. The jokes were communicated to the actors in advance — the audience just didn’t know that. Being someone who grew up in the industry, I would never insult my seniors. Everything that happened was with the consent of Chiranjeevi garu and Balakrishna garu. Even Venkatesh garu asked me to joke about him. Unfortunately, people who weren’t aware of the context tried to blow it out of proportion.”

Inspirations and Vision:

Teja said he is inspired by actor Nani in terms of performance and by Prabhas when it comes to choosing film subjects. He doesn’t believe that OTT is the sole reason for declining theatre footfalls, and is hopeful that if all goes well, Mirai could lead to sequels in the future.

తేజా సజ్జా, 'హనుమాన్' సినిమాతో జాతీయ స్థాయిలో భారీ విజయం సాధించి అంతే స్థాయిలో మరో భారీ సినిమా 'మిరాయ్' తో ఈ నెల 12 న మరోసారి బాక్సాఫీస్ దగ్గర తన అదృష్టాన్ని పరీక్షించుకోవడానికి సిద్ధమైపోయిన యువ హీరో. 'మిరాయ్' సినిమా ప్రమోషన్లో భాగంగా 'ఐడిల్ బ్రెయిన్' జీవీకి ఇంటర్వ్యూ ఇచ్చారు తేజా సజ్జా. బాలనటుడిగా కెరీర్ ను ఆరంభించిన ఆయన తన చిన్నతనంలోనే అగ్ర నటుల సినిమాల్లో సందడి చేసిన మనకు తెలిసిందే. చిన్ననాటి బాలనటుడిగా విషయాల నుండి నేటి 'మిరాయ్' వరకూ తన సినీ ప్రయాణంలో చాలా విషయాలను జీవీతో ఆయన పంచుకోవడం జరిగింది.

'హనుమాన్' రిలీజ్ కంటే ముందే 'మిరాయ్' సినిమాను ఒప్పుకున్న ఆయన 'మిరాయ్' కోసం చాలా కష్టపడ్డారు. చాలా ప్రమాదకరమైన యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాల్లో ప్రత్యక శిక్షణ తీసుకొని మరీ నటించడం జరిగింది. లక్షల మందికి రాని హీరో అవకాశం తనకు వచ్చిందని, కాబట్టి ఆ అవకాశాల్ని సద్వినియోగం చేసుకొనే క్రమంలో ఎంతైనా కష్టపడతానన్నారు. ఓ సందర్భంలో దర్శకుడు వీవీ వినాయక్ చెప్పిన "సినిమా హీరోగా అవకాశం రావడమన్నది పూర్వ జన్మ సుకృతం" అన్న మాటే తనకు ఆదర్శం అన్నారు. భవిష్యత్తులో 'హనుమాన్' సినిమాలో పాత్రకు కొనసాగింపు పాత్రలు ఉండే అవకాశాలున్నాయన్నారు.

'మిరాయ్' గురించి ఇంకా చెప్తూ.. " భారతీయ తెరపై గతంలో ఎన్నడూ చూడని రెండు మూడు కొత్త విషయాలను ఈ సినిమాలో చూపించబోతున్నాం. లోకేషన్ల విషయంలో కూడా గతంలో ఎన్నడూ చేయని లొకేషన్లలో షూటింగ్ చేశాం. మంచు మనోజ్ లాంటి ఇంటెన్స్ ఉన్న నటుడికి కార్తీక్ ఘట్టమనేని లాంటి స్టైలిష్ దర్శకుడు తోడవ్వడంతో 'మిరాయ్' చాలా బాగా వచ్చింది. టీజర్లో చూపించిన ట్రైన్ సీక్వెన్స్ మొత్తం రియల్ గానే షూట్ చేశాం. ఈ సినిమాతో తప్పకుండా 'సలార్' మరియు 'హనుమాన్' సినిమాల స్థాయి హై మూమెంట్స్ ఇవ్వగలం." అన్నారు. 'మిరాయ్' సినిమాతో మన ఇతిహాసాల్లో ఉన్న విలువల గురించి యాక్షన్, ఫాంటసీ కోణంలో కొత్తగా చెప్పే ప్రయత్నం చేశామన్నారు. మన జీవితంలో మంచి జరిగినా, చెడు జరిగినా దేవుణ్ణి తలచుకోకుండా ఉండలేమన్నారు. అది మన సంస్కృతిలో ఒక భాగమన్నారు. తనకెలాంటి ఇన్సెక్యూరిటీ ఉండదన్న తేజా తనకెప్పుడూ జట్టు ప్రయోజనమే ప్రాధాన్యమన్నారు. సోషల్ మీడియాలో అర్థవంతమైన సలహాలు కనిపిస్తే మనస్పూర్తిగా వాటిని స్వీకరిస్తానని, కానీ కొన్ని కొన్ని సందర్భాల్లో సమాజంలో కష్టపడి ఎదిగిన వ్యక్తుల మీద కూడా అర్థంలేని ద్వేషాన్ని చూపించినప్పుడు మాత్రం చాలా బాధకలుగుతుందన్నారు.

'ఐఫా' కాంట్రవర్సీ గురించి చెప్తూ.. "ఆరోజు జరిగిన ప్రోగ్రామ్ అంతా ముందే నిర్దేశించబడినది. ఆ జోకులు అన్నీ ఆయా నటులకు తెలిసి మరియు తెలిపే చేశామన్న విషయం ప్రేక్షకులకు తెలియదు. చిన్నప్పటి నుండీ సినిమా పరిశ్రమలోనే ఉన్న నేను నటులను చిన్నబుచ్చే ప్రయత్నాలు ఎన్నటికీ చేయను. అదంతా చిరంజీవి మరియు బాలకృష్ణల అనుమతితోనే జరిగింది. ఆ వేదికపై హీరో వెంకటేష్ కూడా ఆయనపై జోకులేయమని చెప్పారు. ఆ విషయం తెలియని వాళ్లు కావాలనే దానిని రాద్ధాంతం చేయడానికి ప్రయత్నించారు" అన్నారు. సినిమాల్లో నటుడు నానిని అనుసరిస్తానని చెప్పిన తేజా, తనకు సినిమాలను ఎంపికచేసుకునే విధానంలో ప్రభాస్ చాలా నచ్చుతారన్నారు. OTT ల కారణంగానే ధియేటర్ల వైపు జనం రావడలేదన్న మాటను నమ్మనని చెప్పిన తేజా, అన్నీ అనుకూలిస్తే 'మిరాయ్' సినిమా నుండి తరువాత భాగాలు వచ్చే అవకాశాలున్నాయన్నారు.
