The teaser of Cinema Bandi director Praveen Kandregula’s sophomore effort, Paradha, headlined by Anupama Parmeswaran, Darshana Rajendran and Sangitha, was released by the makers at an event in Hyderabad on Wednesday and it promises to be a hard-hitting drama.

A little over 1 minute and 30 seconds, it opens with a female character saying to someone, ‘Is she mad or what? To die somewhere far away, she is willing to give Rs 70 lakh’. We are soon introduced to Anupama, who is seen with her face veiled, while Darshana and Sangitha seem to be playing merry characters. The trio is on a journey to north eastern India. Darshana makes fun of Anupama covering herself in a veil most of the time, asking her why not use a helmet instead. They have a great time exploring the wonders of north eastern India before an unfortunate incident disrupts their trip. Sangitha is worried about Subbu? Who is Subbu? Is she Anupama? The teaser later cuts to a village where the villagers claim that they will do anything to safeguard the village. A shot shows the entire village congregating around a well. Is it Anupama’s village? Was she on a trip for the well-being of the village? To know answers to these questions, we have to wait a little longer.

In conclusion, the teaser offers a tantalizing glimpse into the high-stakes world of Parada, where within a blink of an eye joy turns into despair. Without revealing the plot, the director draws us into his world which is dotted with customs, superstitious beliefs while Anupama’s role has a certain mystery. The camerawork is stunning, striking a fine balance between picturesque and grim imagery, while the background score by Gopi Sundar is gentle in the beginning and gives an eerie feel as it comes to an end.

A joint production venture between Vijay Donkada, Sreenivasulu PV and Sridhar Makkuva, Paradha has no release date attached to it yet.
