While it may be dropping on Netflix on Friday– two weeks after it sailed into cinemas, Gangs of Godavari, front-lined by Vishwak Sen and directed by Krishna Chaitanya, proved to be a profitable venture for all the parties involved.

Despite the fact that theatre business has shrunk significantly in the last couple of months due to varying factors, Gangs of Godavari buyers were in the safe zone from the first Monday itself. Production houses Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas made a table profit of Rs 4 crore before release. Sources say the film was made on a budget of Rs 26 crore, while non-theatrical rights fetched the makers Rs 22 crore. Theatrically it grossed more than Rs 22 crore. The theatrical business of the film was valued at Rs 8 crore. In addition, the film opened up markets in Andhra and Ceded for Vishwak, who until then was considered strong in Nizam.

Buoyed by the success of their maiden collaboration, Vishwak and Krishna Chaitanya, sources tell us exclusively, are set to team up again. “Vishwak and Krishna Chaitanya hit it off right from the pre-production of Gangs of Godavari and the making only thickened their bond further. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they are collaborating again. Their new film will be a high-voltage period drama dealing with themes like friendship and love. It will roll from February next year. It will be a bilingual to be shot in Telugu and Hindi simultaneously. Chances of dubbing into Tamil and Malayalam are not ruled out at this juncture,” a source close to the development confirms to us.

The source goes on to add that multiple parties are interested to produce the project and a decision to this end will be taken pretty soon.

Vishwak is right now in the final leg of completing Mechanic Rocky with SRT Entertainments, while he also has Laila with Sahu Garapati and an untitled project with Sudhakar Cherukuri.
