An open letter to Ram Gopal Varma

Hallo Ram Gopal Varma,

I am a hardcore fan of your movies. I am Pavan Karthik. Right now I am in Texas doing my bachelors in CSE (sophomore). My aim is to be a filmmaker. I appreciated your films right from your first one. Well I was very young then, so I watched it after watching Antham. I can say Antham is one of the best movies made by anyone in Telugu film industry. It had the feel. The way nag has been presented his looks - the movie had style and good story telling.

The movie, which inspired me to become a filmmaker, is Deyyam's trailer. I used to watch the trailer everyday before news. It was awesome - the best trailer. I feel trailers are more effective then the whole movie, coz trailers give us the feel of the movie. Raatri is the best horror picture I ever saw. I think u have greater skills then any other director you can make horrors (Raat), adventures (Kshanakshanam, Anaganaga Oka Roju), underworld movies (Gaayam, Satya, Shiva) and filmy fantasy movies (Rangeela, Mast) and experiments like Kaun.

Take Mani Ratnam. He can make only 2 kinds - a love story and a love story with terrorism background, and same with any telugu director! I just wanna say that you are better then anyone.

But I watched your new movie - Company. That movie lacked Drama. It made me feel like as if I am watching a documentary. And you are boasting it as a new kind of filmmaking. But I don't feel sir, and it has nothing to show, coz you had showed almost everything about underworld EFFECTIVELY in Satya. And KHALLAS SONG is worst part of the movie was so artificial, it is not good to hearing and watching too. And your film Jungle - it was so typical, the ending - it was not like a Varma film. I just wanna say - make films you used to make in telugu so different. They were very different in those times, but the movies you are making right now are routine. And they are not so good. Rajat Mukherjee's Pyaar tune kya kiya was a worst and boring movie. I don't know how could you say it is a good movie, to be honest its c grade movie.

One more thing sir, we need you back in Telugu industry. Right now, Industry is in one of the worst phases. Every movie that is being released is a formula movie (seema faction, teenage love 'nuvve kavali' style),

I don't know how long these guys take LOVE STORIES. Mani Ratnam is in Tamil and making national level movies - making Tamil to international audience, I feel shy sometimes. When ever I meet different state guys: they just say I am a Tamilian, most of them don't even know there is Telugu.

The big problem in Telugu industry is CASTE FEELINGS AND STUFF. They don't want new guys to come up.

Sir we need you back. Try to make your films from here or at least make one film in Telugu per 2 years.

Hope u get the message

Thanking you

DREAMS WILL COME TRUE

Pavan Karthik
