In an otherwise male dominated bastion, among the very few
women directors, only two - Dr. P. Bhanumati Ramakrishna and
Vijaya Nirmala made the box office success grade. And now
we have one more talent to join this brigade, Manjula Naidu
who has already proved her worth on the small screen. Now
she makes her debut on the silver screen with a sensitive
theme, Kanulu Moosina Neevaye. In tune with the tastes
of the present day audience, the film is produced by her husband,
Sudhakar Pallamala under Srikanth Entertainments banner. Manjula
Naidu heralded her entry into the tele-serial making with
Agamanam in 1990. Later, she made its sequel and other
popular soaps like Vandemataram, Kasturi, Ruthuraagaalu,
and the on going Kalachakram. And to her credit, Ruthuraagaalu
was the first mega-serial in Telugu. Being a woman and sensitive
to the problems faced by her ilk, she chose a story that has
the emotions of a girl as the central point. "Do not
come to the conclusion that it is a feminist theme. It is
in tune with the present day tastes of the audience, a tender
love story set against a family background." Both the
protagonists (played by Deepak and Archana) have the same
positive attitude towards life and love. "After directing
this film, I feel making of a mega serial is a laborious work
and compared to that, movie making is a kind of a luxury,"
feels the filmmaker.
