Sarkar Raj

There are often times that form dominates expression and vice versa. Especially when it comes to movies, its this faithful transformation of form to expression that tends to cast that indelible mark on the mind of the viewer. Cinema in many forms, is an expression of the detours of ones mind into the world outside the realm of physicality.But the status quo always manifests itself in whatever fiction that mind can ever depict. That precisely might be the reason why the phantoms in my most dreaded dreams has a human form.Ever our dreams suffer the stroke of reality.

Preamble apart, Sarkar Raj is the classic example of what happens when the aforementioned transformation fails. As a loosely bound string of ideas, Sarkar Raj does a fair job but when the corpus is laid out mapping out those ideas, it ends up as tangled as the vision. Varma, who at times steals the show, by the way he evolves the characters of his celluloid depiction, failed to do so, this time around. Every movie, good and bad has two exclusive groups of errors. The gaps and the fundamental flaws with the latter happening when the script it-self falls, to accomplish/justify its modus operandi. What I found in Sarkar Raj, is the sporadic proliferation of flaws at very many moments of the evolution of the drama.

In the first half, the scenes that interspersed between Abhishek and Rao saab's grandson were in a least sense, futile. The whole array of frames capturing the violence instigated by somji were an insipid attempt to drag the narrative which in effect could have been condensed to a whole 3 minutes with one skew allusion. The BGM and the song in that context failed to elevate the mood of the mind to the scenes that followed. The second half is what that suffers the most owing to the transform that we talked about.

First up, as plain vanilla as it gets,in a setting with a protagonist and a slew of the opposing men, any normal mind can make it that all one needs to do is to hit one of the antagonists and press him for the conspiracy. With the a priori information to both the viewer and the Nagre family that 3 individuals fundamentally opposed them, on an overt scale, Varma resorting to picking up vora to divulge the conspiracy just lent vent to the whole steam of the movie in one plain frame. Once he resorted to that fatal flaw, the movie falls flat in tempo and antagonizes the viewer's mind. It often times is the vision that differentiates the rote from the extra ordinary and when varma supposed ( I might be wrong) that this way of ending the plot might justify his motive to make the viewers rivet to their seats, his vision falls prey to its own supposition.

Sarkar raj, is a decent peice of a mind's sketch on the celluloid albeit not the one I would spend money on taking home. All it lacked were a few subtle and intelligent strokes of the brush. For a difference, lets assume that after Abhishek dies, what would have happened if all the three(Vora,The entrepreneur and the deputy CM) opposing henchmen die with out the nagre family's involvement. When the umbilical chord that bred the conspiracy was severed??? It would be interesting to envisage a plot thereafter....A very alluring exercise to a cinema maker!!!!!!!
