You entered film industry with a negative role in Prasthanam and now you got to play a solo hero in a romantic comedy. How do you feel about it?
My work in Prasthanam got noticed well. Prasthanam is the reason why I got the Bollywood film ‘Shor in the city’. A Bollywood hit like Shor got me lot of respect. But I always had inner craving for films with more commercial appeal. Routine Love Story is one such project I am doing for the first time.
How did you get Routine Love Story film?
Producer Chanakya is a friend and I happened to see LBW and immensely liked it. Chanakya said that he had an offer for me and made director Praveen Sattaru narrate the story. The script had freshness and humor interlinked the basic plot. 30 days after that meet, we went to floors for the shoot.
Tell us about your character in RLS?
My nickname in real life is Sanju and my real name is Sundeep Kishan. The name and nickname of the character in this film is also the same. The characterization too is very close to my real life. I am playing the character of an youngster who has a fixed notion about love and life. He gets introduced to Tanvi (Regina Cassandra) and his life tumbles forever. The rest of the story is about sequences he has to gone through for getting to know Tanvi.
Tell us about the release of the movie?
Routine Love Story has done good business and getting a massive release for this kind of cinema. The producer has made a handsome table profit and the film is releasing in 105 theaters in Nizam and 45 screens in Hyderabad, in particular. I hope that movie lovers will like the movie and the distributors who bought RLS for a nice price will make good profits.
You had a near-death adventure in Rishikesh while doing a grade-4 rapids?
It was an adventure to do in a small kayak on grade-4 rapids. It was a winter time and our kayak tumbled. The director knew it all the while and had a 7-camera simultaneous shoot to get the best out of it.
You seemed to have worked only with NRI directors in your first four films?
It’s was just a coincidence. I guess my work in Prasthanam let to other projects. Deva Katta (Prasthanam), Madhura Sreedhar (Sneha Geetam), Raj - DK (Shor) and Praveen Sattaru (Routine Love Story) do have the same professional qualification before entering films. All of them are very passionate about films. I was always looking for commercial films with sensible stuff and the directors too wanted a guy to fit in their sensible films. I am easily accessable.
You are doing contrasting films?
I don’t want to be a typecast. I am lucky to be getting roles that are different from each other. My roles in Gundello Godari and D for Dopidi are going to be different from what I have done in the past. My roles in RLS and D for Dipidi have a good commercial outlook. Gundello Godari film will be critically acclaimed like Prasthanam.
You are working as a VJ in a TV channel these days to promote your film?
I am going all out as this film is my first solo-hero project and I will get credit/blame for it. I have garnered some good will in these two years and I am exploiting that good will to promote RLS movie. The collections for the morning show on 23 November will tell me if all my hard work in promotion paid off or not.
The release date of Damarukam is confirmed just a day back and you film is colliding with Dhamarukam?
Dhamarukam film is by King Nag and it’s a huge VFX extravaganza. Mine is a small rom-com film. Hence we can’t compare. I am also a huge fan of Nag. I want both films to become big hits. My uncle Chota K Naidu is the DOP for Dhamarukam and it’s a per project for him. I will be watching Damarukam and Routine Love Story on the day one.
What are your future films?
I have D for Dopidi and Gundello Godari films ready for the release. I also have a couple of Tamil projects ready for the release. I have two more Telugu projects to go into sets. The details will be announced soon. I had a big break after Sneha Geetam and now I have four films ready for the release.
One last question. Why should anybody watch Routine Love Story?
I chose this project to satisfy the audience in me. There is continuous laughter in the film. And all the audiences will identify their young phase of life while watching RLS. The humor in this film is generated out of events that occur in our everyday life.
