Arundhati

I am an avid [yet passive] cruiser of idlebrain.com. I watched Arundhati in Dallas, TX in a very good theater and I felt very good watching a great film after a long time. I am consider of a freak of thrilling roller coaster rides, but when it comes to watching movies with blood, gore -- I just cannot tolerate it. Though I loved the content, I had to wink my way through most of the movies like Gladiator or other Ghost movies like Mantra.

Arundhati was one movie where I could not blink even once and the film was engaging right from the beginning though towards the end it could have been more tight.

First and foremost, big KUDOS to the Shyam & co for the tremendous conviction that they showed in the movie and what they believed in such an unconventional. I am greatly relieved to see that huge patronage that the movie is generating in both India and abroad. This should augur well for different producers to try the different genres and give us good quality cinema other than the traditional 15min-fight-song-comedy-dialogue cycles.

The performances are just first rate and Anushka is just amazing.

Having said that, I was a bit let down in the second half particularly towards the climax. This is mostly the case of 'difficult to satisfy the pre-set high expectations'. The thing that bothered me a lot was the constant vulnerability and lack of confidence that Arundhati showed in the second half. She almost looked like she surrendered to hopelessness.

I would have loved to see the new Arundhati progressively gaining more confidence and trust in spite of the tough circumstances -- particularly after it is revealed [and she realizes] that she is none other than the old Arundhati when she demonstrates the innate skill of holding a flying a sword..

The other thing is that it must have been very inconvenient and awkward for Anushka to do so much running in sarees and on barefoot -- perhaps, they should have continued the wearing of jeans.

I loved the scene when the new Arundhati first goes to the old fort and transforms into the old Arundhati -- Anushka looked fabulous..

Couple of other things:

1. The drum dance was short, particularly the teacher to the kid Arundhati instruction.

2. There was no horse riding scenes even though there was much talk about this in the interviews.

One negative point:

1. Even though I agreed with the evilness of Pasupathi, I somehow cannot agree with the mode of death meted out to the teacher.. Somehow it reminded me of the initial scenes in "Hey Ram" and Rani Mukarjee's death.

These are very disturbing -- and I am extremely scared that these might give additional wicked ideas to the already sick people that live out there.

Well -- this is the first time I am posting on any thread.. This movie is definitely NOT for the kids. I do hope that every adult telugu person gets a chance to enjoy the brilliance of the movie.

Expecting a bigger success next time from Shyam & co.
