Charmme entered into films at an age of 13 and is on the verge of completing 50 films. Her latest film Pratighatana is releasing on 18 April. Here are excerpts of idlebrain.com’s excluive interview -
How is your career going?
I am going with the flow. I don’t plan anything and go by my instincts. I don’t overthink. I have rejected a lot of scripts as everybody wants me to do thriller/horror films after the success of Mantra and Mangala. I am a big fan of masala films and I never reject any opportunity to shake leg with mass heroes (Nagarjuna - Dhamarukam and Ram Charan - Naayak). I am getting many female oriented projects. I feel that I am an entertainer and I want to balance films among masalas, heroine subjects and item songs.
Whats the reason for accepting Pratighatana?
I was watching TV and was appalled by a news that a 4-year old girl was raped. I was quite shaken and feeling dirty. That is when Tammareddy Bharadwaja narrated me the script of Pratighatana. Tammareddy Bharadwaja is known as a fearless and daring speaker in Telugu film industry. He has also explained the political angle in the film. I have signed the movie.
Tell us about your role in Pratighatana?
I work as a TV news journalist. I was doing dubbing at my own comfort levels in the past. Since I play a journalist character, director has given me big liners. I needed to speak Telugu with command, speed and in high pitch. I could have asked some dubbing artist to do it for me. But, I took it as challenge. I do take 2 days to dub my lines for any film, but I had taken 10 days to dub for Pratighatana. I tried looking extremely natural in the film. I wore 2 sport shoes and three paid of jeans in the entire film. There is only one hand bag. I wore neither lipstick/eye shadows not nail polish.
You are very slim now?
I used to slim down during shoot and gain weight after shooting is over. I can’t resist good food. But now I have made a lifestyle decision to diet on regular basis. I am 25 now and I should make dieting a part of my life style. I am combining diet with cardio/stretching/weight-training/swimming. I am keeping my weight on check with 70% of diet and 30% of workout.
Why are you not accepting more movies?
I have stopped working for money. I feel secure deep down my heart. I only do films which impress me. I stopped living for society and I have learnt to do so without hurting others.
When are you going to marry?
I have to find the right guy. It’s not going to be an arranged marriage. Most probably (85%) I will end up marrying a guy from film industry. Outsiders will not understand/empathize life of a heroine. I want to be in film industry till my last breath.
How does it feel to complete 50 movies?
I made my debut with Nee Thodu Kavali at an age of 13. The producer/director didn’t know my age when they cast me. They wanted to shoot songs in New Zealand. When they applied for Visa, the embassy objected to my visa as they perceived it as child labor. I had come a long way since then. I had seen highs and lows. I have worked in several languages and am very glad to be completing 50 films.
What is your next movie?
I will be doing Mantra 2 soon.
