I am a passionate lover of visual effects in the movies. I always made sure that I watch good visual effect movies on big screen to get the real feel of it . Being in USA for last 10yrs I have got used to watching Hollywood movies so much that, over time I stopped watching Telugu movies in theatre. Don’t get me wrong, there have been few good telugu movies that came out but I did not really feel the necessity to watch them in the theatre. So I just waited for the DVDs to come out , rented them and was content with watching those movies on TV.
When I read Arundhati reviews, I was not really sure if this movie would really match up to all the hype that it received. The reason for my skepticism is the result of watching the movie ANJI in theatre (I think in 2003), which not only gave me bad headache but also made me promise myself to not to bother watching telugu movies in theatre here in USA. Until Arundhati movie, I hold on to my decision of not wasting money for telugu movies in theatre.
But being a great lover of visual effect movies and especially with all the hype the movie got online (thanks to idlebrain.com.:)), I could not resist myself. So finally decided to go to the theatre to watch it. My first thought after watching 45mins of the movie was WOW. I really did not expect a telugu movie to be so gripping and captivating. The whole movie goes in such a fast pace that there was never a dull or slow moment anywhere. This movie is a combination of awesome script, decent performance, good background music, great visual effects and editing. The voice for villain definitely deserves a special applaud. The voice was so intense, deep and powerful that it created the right kind of mood for the movie. I really liked the way his voice runs all through the movie and not really showing the actual person much on screen. Few scenes actually remind us of the movies Lord of the rings and The grudge.
The movie definitely is very violent and there is lot of bloodshed, but all those scenes were executed so good that the audience just gets involved completely in the scene. The whole climax scene was just amazing; especially the scene when Arundhati kills the villain actually gave me goose bumps. Anushka gave one of her best performances in the climax scene. Although she was good most of the movie, in the Drum Dance scene (supposedly the crucial part of the movie) she really could not create the fierce and intense mood with her dance. She actually danced so bad that it actually looked like she was struggling like hell to do the dance steps. With very crisp editing and prefect timing of visual effects, the bad dancing by Anushka got shadowed out( she got lucky there). The other thing, which I thought was not very convincing is that manorama says that only she and jejama knows about what happened after 48days of burying the villain. How the hell she knows what happened when she was nowhere in the scene when jejama goes back to the palace alone after 48days. Either the director overlooked this part of the story or may be I missed out something here. Anyways no movie is perfect.
I must say that we can actually see the great effort , hard work and the passion of the crew in this film. I am definitely going to buy DVD when it is out. I got a small request, please include behind scenes and making of visual effects of the movie in the extras part of the DVD. We would like to get a glimpse of all the hard work that was put in by the crew behind the screen.
At last, great job and congratulations to the entire team on the success of this movie. I thank you guys for giving me a reason to make an effort to go to theatre to watch a telugu movie.
