Story

Karthik (Rahul Ravindran) is forced to fulfil last wish of his grandfather. He is supposed to marry a village girl Divya (Khushi). Karthik wants to get introduced to her in anonymity and then fall in love before getting married. He gathers his funky friends - a victim of wife (Vennela Kishore) and a guy (Shani) who thinks he is creative. After going to the village, Karthik meets Shruti (Heebah Patel) and then Divya. Rest of the story is all about what happens when Karthik realises that he has feelings for Shruti instead of Divya.

Artists Performance

Actors: Rahul Ravindran surprises you with his ability to carry the role with conviction. If you see him as a classy guy in Andala Rakshasi, you will find him as an impromptu and spontaneous guy in this movie. Vennela Kishore has got a completely entertaining and prominent role after ages. He brings his personality and his antics into the character to make it lovable and funny. Shani brings humor with looks and Telangana dialect. Shruti looks cute and performs well. This is what happens when the dubbing artist is more popular than the heroine. We come to know that the actress whose voice is dubbed by Chinmayi is the main heroine in the story. Bhanusri Mehra is cool as nagging wife. Khushi is fine. Ravi Varma (Vennela fame) is good in a comic negative role.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Debutant director Aneesh Krishna has done a decent job. His ability conceive entertainment scenes is pretty good. He has introduced the characters and established the plot point well. He has brought up camaraderie among three guys well. However, he couldn’t hold the steam in the second half where hero’s preference change from one girl to another. The scene in which Rahul Ravindran appears in three get-ups is a forced one. However, he made sure that the climax is shot well. Aneesh Krishna has stuff in him to become a good director.

Other departments: Cinematography by Sai Sriram is excellent. Slick visuals are aided well by good DI (color grading). Music by Bheems Cecirolio is foot-tapping and melodious. Dialogues written by the director Aneesh Krishna are pretty good and funny at times. Editing is alright. Production values are slick despite being a low-budget film.


Analysis: First half of the film is nice. There are lull moments in the second half. But the climax is nice. There are many enjoyable satires on women (especially the housewives). Plus points are fresh taking, fun moments and male leads. On the flipside, second half is sluggish. Watch out for the director in the future. On a whole, Ala Ela is a kind of film which falls short of being a good film, but makes an okay watch!
