Sundeep Kishan is carving a niche for himself by doing films with a difference. After delivering family entertainers like Venkatadri Express and Beeruva, he is taking the path less traveled with films like Tiger, Run and Okka Ammai Thappa. Here is an exclusive interview with Sundeep Kishan on the eve of his film Run release on 23 March -
Tell us about the response for your last film Tiger?
I am very proud of Tiger. I got more credibility as an actor with that movie. Baahubali was released 10 days after Tiger. Tiger did decent money by then.
Tell us how Run happened?
I loved Neram the moment I watched it. A couple of years later, Anil Sunkara called me and offered me Neram script. I love him as a human being and accepted to do it.
Neram is a simple story with stylish narrative. The original director Alphonse Putharen is known to make a huge difference to a simple story with terrific narrative patterns. His debut was Neram and his second film was Premam. Neram talks about time - good time and bad time. It’s an edge of the seat thriller, yet makes you laugh wholeheartedly.
I play the role of a guy who loses his job, having issues with love and have to pay lot of money to a lending shark character played by Bobby Simha. It’s a story that takes place from morning to evening.
Tell us about the producers?
Anil Sunkara is a fantastic human being. He stood by me in my hard times. I personally want him to make a good money with Run movie. Sudhakar Cherukuri is a very nice person. I found a lot of comfort in my career while working for this production house.
Tell us about crewmembers?
Ani Kanneganti is a technically good director. I trusted him and didn’t even looked at monitor while shooting. I saw the film when I went to dub. I was happy and confident after looking at the output. Ani approached me with a script when I was doing Prasthanam. I am happy that he is directing me when I am in a better position tradewise.
Music director Sai Karthik has done a fabulous job in background music department. We took Pista tune from the original and Sai Karthik composed three refreshing songs on his own. Cinematographer Rajasekhar has worked for big projects like Orange and Arya 2 in the past and he gave trendy visuals for Run movie.
What are the other films you are doing now?
I am currently doing a couple of Tamil films and a Telugu film -
Maa Nagaram: It’s an anthology film (multiple stories) that is shot by a successful short film director. Regina plays heroine.
Mayavan: CV Kumar who has produced several trendsetting films like Pizza and Soodhu Kavvum is making his debut as director with this movie. It’s a scientific thriller with several commercial high points. This film is titled after villain and there are three villains in the movie. Lavanya Tripathi plays female lead and Ghibran composes music.
Okka Ammai Thappa: This film is directed by writer Rajasimha. It’s a concept based film where story happens on a flyover. Nitya Menen plays female lead. Shooting is complete but for a couple of songs. There will be a lot of CG work where they will match the set with Hitech city flyover. We are aiming for May release.
What’s your gut feel about Run?
Run is a film set in realistic backdrop and it’s a concept based film. Success of Kshanam gave me confidence that audiences are receptive for edge of seat thrillers like Run. I am sure that Run will be liked by movie lovers.
