An
open letter to Idlebrain.com visitors
What
exactly happened at Bellary on the night of 23rd July 2002? What
are the reasons for Chiru fans going berserk over it? Here is the
first hand information given by a Chiranjeevi fan (also a visitor
of idlebrain.com)
Dear
friends at idlebrain.com
There
is a flash back that runs two years back. Venky's Kalisundam
Raa (share of 11 lakhs) was the first 100 days film in Bellary.
The second 100 days film was Nagarjuna's 'Nuvvu
Vastavani' (collected a share of 19 lakhs). The third 100 days
film was Narasimha
Naidu (collected a share of 17.1 lakhs). The fourth 100 days
film was Aadi (collected
a share of 16 lakhs).
In
the mean time, Pawan Kalyan's Kushi
was released in Nataraj theater (capacity 1100 seats). It ran for
54 days in Nataraj and was shifted to Uma theater later where it
ran for 56 days collecting a total share of 21 lakhs, which is far
higher than all other 100 days films in Bellary. Chiru fans were
unhappy because Kushi could not run for 100 days in the main theater.
The
buzz was out that Indra would be a superhit, much before the release
of the film. Hence the fans of other heroes, with the help of Kannada
Sangham planned to stall/delay the release of 'Indra' in Bellary.
Indra
completes 100 days by 31st October 2002. Since 1st November is Kannada
Formation Day, all the theaters in Karnataka should play only Kannada
films from 1st November to 7th November. Hence, they planned to
delay the release by a day so that Indra can't celebrate 100 days
as 100th day falls on Kannada formation day. The Kannada Sangham
called for a bandh on 24th July with a demand that Telugu films
should not be released simultaneously in Karnataka along with their
release in AP and that there should be a gap of at least 50 days
before they are released in Karnataka. They got letters from Kannada
Film Chamber in Bangalore stating the same. They even planned to
invite Kannada superstar Rajkumar's wife Parvathi and his son Sivaraj
Kumar to support their bandh.
Since
20th July, there has been tension among the fans of Chiranjeevi
as there was an active attempt being made to either stall the release
of the movie or delay it. After much persuasion by Chiranjeevi fans,
the theater manager arranged a meeting with Kannada Sangham and
made them agree that Indra would be released on 24th July without
any problems. The theater management then gave a paper advertisement
in the evening edition of Sandhya Vani that Indra would be
releasing on 24th July as usual. As per the advertisement, the theater
management gave the timing for the first show as 11 am.
At
around 11 pm on 23rd July, rumors started circulating that the movie
release is going to be delayed. Lots of fans left to Guntakal to
watch the mid night show out there in Geeta theater. But some loyal
Chiru fans felt cheated and betrayed. A group of Chiranjeevi fans
(approximately 3000 fans) entered the park that is not even inaugurated
and uprooted the saplings and broke the benches. The theater management
called up the SP of Bellary district and reported the same. The
SP then gave the permission to start the show immediately.
We
know that we should not have destroyed the park. It's only in that
fit of rage, on being cheated and when nobody was heeding to our
voice, we resorted to that extreme step. The jealous fans of other
heroes who fabricated such an event drove us to commit this act.
If this act were a genuine attempt by Kannada Sangham, we would
not have bothered about it.
Thank
you
A
true Chiranjeevi fan from Bellary who saw Indra 4 times till now.
