Story

He (Balakrishna Nandamuri) gets injured and goes into coma at a hospital in Mumbai. When he wakes up he vaguely remembers what happened to him. He remembers himself as Bose. But, he is identified as Godse, CEO of a company in Mumbai. As he is having memory issues, he goes to Hyderabad to search for his past. He finds his parents and his lover. But they deny him. Are they his real parents or is it just a feeling of deja vu? Rest of the story is all about what led to his injury and how he fights his way back!

Actors:


Nandamuri Balakrishna: Balakrishna has played a character of several variations that needs varying looks. He looks extremely handsome and packs a punch with his authoritative dialogue delivery. He is making sure that there are messages in few scenes of his latest movies. Likewise, there are a couple of message oriented scenes for women’s honor and respecting elders. He gave good movements in masala songs like ‘aisa ambani pilla’, ‘Pilla Nee Kallakunna’ and ‘One and only lion’. NBK is stylish and regal in CBI raid episode.

Other actors: Trisha who is seen in Telugu after a break performed well. The character of Radhika Apte is a pretty short one. Prakash Raj plays the baddie. Indraja did an important role and her mannerisms and dubbing are over the top. Posani Krishna Murali is entertaining though it’s a single scene. Pradeep Rawat’s character in the movie reminds us of somebody who is supposed to have a chair made out of gold on whom CBI rided. Ali played cab driver and he generates some comedy.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the film has good potential. Debutant director Satyadeva creates curiosity and intrigue with character confusion in the first half. A few episodes like CBI raid are executed well. But a few well-conceived episodes like suicide threat are not executed effectively. Screenplay should have been better, injury episode and the set-up after that should have been more convincing. The director seems to have done research while making the story which is the reason why some of the tech concepts are elaborately explained.

Other departments: There are a couple of masala songs scored well by Mani Sharma. Cinematography by Venkata Prasad is alright. Dialogues are powerful though some of them are used excessively. The action episodes composed by Ram Lakshman are highly ambitious. Production values by SLV Cinema are good.



Analysis: Interval episode is interesting. Second half has many episodes that exhilarate fans. Lion is a film that completely revolves around Balakrishna and depends on his performance. A good screenplay and right buildups (elevating emotions while building up to the key scenes) would have done a world of good to the cinema. On a whole, Lion is NBK’s show!
