Review
Story
Anvita (Anushka Shetty) is a master chef in London. She decides to move to Hyderabad on behest of her ailing mother (Jayasudha). Siddhu (Naveen Polishetty) is a software engineer who is more interested in performing standup comedy. He is looking for a break in standup comedy. After the passing away of her mother, Anvita decides that she wants to get impregnated by artificial insemination. She accidentally bumps into Siddhu and decides to go ahead with him. Meanwhile, Siddhu falls in love with Anvita. Rest of the story is about what happens when he realizes the reason behind her affection and caring nature!
Artists Performance
Anushka Shetty looks good and performs well in emotional scenes. She adds a lot of weightage to the film with her presence. Naveen Polishetty is a livewire. This role falls in his arc and he hits it out of the park. His spontaneity and comic timing is matchless and gives LoL moments for the entire crowd in the theater. He is extremely good in emotional scenes as well. Abhinav Gomatam has been doing roles of hero’s buddy in a lot of films recently. This role is perfect for him as his timing and presence complements that of Naveen Polishetty. Sonia (Happy Days fame) is good as the heroine’s friend. Among the parents' characters, both Murali Sharma and Tulasi are given meaty roles and they entertain. It’s nice to see Jayasudha on the big screen after a considerable gap. Nassar did an important role. Harshavardan is entertaining as a doctor.
Story - screenplay - direction: Director and writer Mahesh Babu Pachigolla has written a good story. Though there is an opportunity to insert adult comedy, he has made sure that the entire film is shot decently without any obscenity. He has used the strengths of both lead actors very well. His direction is decent and the screenplay is nice. However, the reason why the heroine doesn't want love/marriage is unconvincing. He should have given a strong reason (like love failure/hurt instead of just showing her parents separation as a reason). The initial part of the film is slow (till Naveen Polishetty makes an entrance). There are a few dull moments in the 2nd half. But there is enough entertainment in the second half and the climax worked out pretty well emotionally.
Other departments: Cinematography by Nirav Shah is very good. Only Lady Luck song clicked among all songs in the film. Radhan should have scored better songs (or producer/director should have asked for better output that attracts the sensibilities of Telugu music lovers). Background score by Gopi Sundar is fine. Dialogues written by Mahesh Babu P are pretty good. The one-liners worked really well in the theater. Production design by Rajeevan is good. The locations used in the film are pretty interesting. Editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is okay. Production values by UV Creations are good.
Analysis: Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty film has several things going for it. Story, casting, entertainment and emotion. The story itself has several angles - sperm donation, one-sided love story and love between older woman and younger man. This type of story with stand-up comedy concept is a very good idea commercially. And Naveen Polishetty playing standup comedy takes the movie experience a notch above. On the whole, Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty is a well-made entertaining love story with a bold concept. I recommend it!
