Review

Story
Arjun (Vishwak Sen) and Anu (Mithila Palkar) are best friends from childhood. They marry on the insistence of Anu. He gets fed up with married life and wants to divorce her. That’s when he is approached by a stranger (Rahul Ramakrishna) in court and makes Arjun believe in him. Then Arjun approaches a miracle man (Venkatesh) who gives him a second chance to go back to days prior to his marriage and change his fate. Rest of the story is about what changes Arjun did to mend his life?

Artists Performance

Venkatesh is in his element as the God. He is humorous and stylish. Vishwak Sen is a good actor and very spontaneous whenever a scene demands it. He played the role of a frustrated husband very well. However his voice is a little louder in this movie. Mithila Palkar is cute as best friend turned wife. Asha Bhat is good as an independent woman. Venkatesh Kakumanu who did a noticeable role in Ee Nagaraniki Emaidi has done a similar role in this film too. He is good. Murali Sharma donned the role of the heroine's father. Rahul Ramakrishna is good. Puri Jagan did a cameo as himself.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: This film is an official remake of Tamil blockbuster Oh My Kadavule (2020). The story has two unique elements. God giving a second chance (Bruce Almighty) & what happens if an alternative option is taken (Run Lola Run, Sliding Doors etc). The director has taken these two inspirations and penned a romantic comedy. Producer has hired the same director, cinematographer and music director for the remake. The director has stuck with the original religiously. There are certain things that work because of the screenplay and there are certain moments that have to work on the scene's merit. Screenplay based scenes are good. However, romantic moments in a few scenes didn’t yield the desired result. First half offers some freshness, but it becomes predictable towards the second half.

Other departments: Music by Leon James is nice with Gundollona number being the best. Cinematography by Vidhu Ayanna is okay. Dialogues written by Tharun Bhascker are contemporary. Editing by Vijay Mukthavarapu is fine. Production design is nice. Production values by the PVP Cinema banner are good.

Analysis: Ori Devuda is an official remake of Tamil film Oh My Kadavule. I have seen the original on OTT. Hence my view is from the perspective of the guy who has seen the original. First half is interesting. Second half doesn’t make much impact. The God aspect and second chance screenplay will get some brownie points. This film has the elements to appeal to the movie lovers who haven’t seen the original.
