Review

Story
Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) and his wife Satyabhama (Ramya Krishna) are in heaven. His grandson Chinna Bangarraju enters his youth and starts behaving like his grandfather. Naga Lakshmi is sister-in-law of Chinna Bangarraju and elders decided to marry them off the moment Naga Lakshmi is born. However, Bangarraju and Naga Lakshmi are always at loggerheads. There is also a divine significance for them to get married. Lord Indra allows Bangarraju to return to the earth in order to set things right between Chinna Bangarraju and Naga lakshmi. Rest of the story is all about how Bangarraju sets everything right.

Artists Performance

Nagarjuna looks extremely handsome and lives up to his reputation of Manmadhudu in the film. The entire film is a one-man-show by him. Naga Chaitanya tries a masala role after a heavy-duty performance oriented film like Love Story. He is pretty good and does the difficult task of imitating his father when he embodies him. Ramya Krishnna looks adorable as a lovable wife of Bangarraju. Krithi Shtty tried a cute role of a village belle. The malayalam actor Govind Padmasoorya is competitive. Sampath Raj looks ghastly as a black-magic mantrik. Rao Ramesh is very good in a vital role. It’s a different village song for Faria Abdullah who looks very urbane, otherwise. This movie is studded with several guest actresses as and when possible for the engaging the flirting Bangarraju’s. Vennela Kishore and Brahmaji are fine.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the film is a true extension of Soggade Chinni Nayana film. The writers have added a divine - tantrik conflict. The story writer has concentrated more on Pedda Bangarraju spirit. From the time Pedda Bangarraju arrives on earth till a ring is worn on Chinna Bangarraju during climax of the film, the narration doesn’t excite us much as there is no tension built up in the story. Whenever a problem occurs, there is an easy solution of Pedda Bangarraju embodying Chinna Bangarraju and then solving the problem. The climax of the film is satisfactory due to three-character-play by two Nagarjunas and one Naga Chaitanya. The climax fight is designed to exhilarate masses and fans.

Other departments: Cinematography by J Yuavaraj is good. A couple of songs composed by Anup Rubens are foot-tapping. Production design by Brahma Kadali is decent. Dialogues are alright. Some of the graphic shots should have been better (especially snake animation - which is a vital part of the story). Action choreography in climax where Pedda Bangarraju embodies son and grandson one after another is well-thought and executed. Editing is okay. Production values by Zee Studios and Annapurna Productions are decent.

Analysis: Soggade Chinni Nayana became a blockbuster in the past despite releasing with a couple of other big star films. Bangarraju makes a good business decision to capitalize on the craze and cash-in the Sankranthi festive period by being the only big film. The film starts off well, but not much emotional highs in the middle of the film. The climax sets things right and the people will have a positive feeling when they get out of the theatre. We need to wait and see how it works at the box office.
