Review

Story
Srikanth (Naveen Polishetty), Sekhar (Priyadarshi) and Ravi (Rahul Ramakrishna) are simpletons from Jogipet. Fed up with rustic life in Jogipet, Srikanth wants to go to Hyderabad for a job and a better life. Sekhar and Ravi follow him. They manage an apartment in a posh gated community. These three friends are framed in a murder charge and put in jail. Rest of the film is all about how they prove their innocence.

Artists Performance

Naveen Polishetty has chosen a character that suits him the best. His vast experience in comedy videos and stand-up type comedy has helped him deliver his best while portraying the lead role of a gullible youngster. His comedy timing is impeccable and ease at diction is excellent. He is a great entertainer. It’s a hilarious characterization for Priyadarshi (his fixation towards rice cooker) and he is perfect. Rahul Ramakrishna delivers well as a love-failure/drunkard friend. There are few scenes in which he had to deliver with just a word and he creates fun with it. Debutant actress Faria Abdulla looks cute with her towering personality. She did well. Vennela Kishore is hilarious though he is there in a few scenes. It’s nice to see Brahmanandam as a judge in a comedy film. He adds value. Murali Sharma is apt in a key role. Brahmaji is good. Mirchi Kiran is decent as Murali Sharma’s sidekick. Naresh, Tanikella Bharani, Giribabu, Subhalekha Sudhakar and Divya Sripada have contributed. Keerthi Suresh’s song and scenes provide us an early surprise. Vijay Deverakonda is also seen in a scene towards the end.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: We need to discuss the genre of the film before going into this section. It’s a madcap comedy film where logics are wilfully (not for the sake of convenience) taken out. The story of the film is written only to help create fun through scenes and dumbness of the characters. The writer of the film has created scenarios where fun can be generated. The main actors (Naveen, Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna) have terrific comedy timing and they made those scenes work in a big way. Each character of the film behaves in a funny way (including the judge character). The village backdrop of Jogipet adds a lot of freshness while introducing us to the lead characters. There is a unique aspect associated with Priyadarsi and Rahul Ramakrishna characters and the uniqueness is maintained consistently throughout the film. When the intention of the film is just to create fun moments, the effectiveness of the film depends on how well these comedy scenes worked and how engaging the film is. The comedy in the film works throughout consistently. First half is completely engaging. Second half is a little slow, but the climax makes up for it. Director Anudeep has extracted great comedy performances from the actors. He is excellent with writing comedy. Screenplay of the film is decent.

Other departments: Songs scored by Radhan are excellent (especially Chitti song). Background music is good. He has used baarat music for fun scenes involving the friends. Cinematography by Siddham Manohar is fine. Dialogues in the film are hilarious. Editing by Abhinav is alright. Production design is authentic. Swapna Cinema has chosen a subject (comedy/entertainment) that’s much needed for the present situation (post-covid).

Analysis: Jathi Ratnalu is a complete fun ride. We follow the characters and laugh the guts out. The major plus points of the film are casting (Naveen, Priyadarshi, Rahul Ramakrishna) and dialogues (which worked really well because of actors/situations). Second half appears a little slow as the audiences expect a logical ending. But, the director has decided to treat the entire film as a satire. Naveen Polishetty who has attracted the attention of movie lovers with his finest work in Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya comes with a madly entertaining performance in this film. His brand value grows exponentially with Jathi Ratnalu. On the whole, Jathi Ratnalu is a hilarious comedy film. Watch it!
