Openletter
to RP Patnaik
Dear
Editor,
This
open letter is nothing less than an ode to Telugu industry's reigning
connoisseur of music - R.P. Patnaik.
I
listen to the tunes of Santosham for the umpteenth time and the
familiar thought crosses my mind. No one has ever captivated my
senses more than this flagrant and versatile music director, a man
who has struck many a chord in the hearts of ardent music worshippers.
His music has this uncanny sense of rhythm that just takes melody
to the next level. During a time when sustenance is almost impossible
and constancy is, but, a word unknown and unheard of, this maestro's
filial devotion to extracting the best songs amazes me. "Nuvvu
Nenu, Chitram, Santosham".... the hits just keep pouring out.
And as a matter of fact, the man doesnt seem to manufacture music,
it just comes naturally - a gift that only the likes of Keeravani
possess.
I
have always prided myself on being a fan of "class music".
Yet, strangely, over the past few years, I have taken a liking to
the "Gajuwaka Pilla" genre of songs. I have realized,
thanks to Mr. Patnaik, that music, if delivered in the right fashion
and with the appropriate ingredients can entice even the basest
of loners. I reside in New York and have been here for the past
couple of years, and can truly say that if there is one thing that
has kept me true to my roots, its Telugu music. Through times of
despair and hoplessness and during moments of joy and happiness,
my R.P Patnaik CDs have guided the way. Indulgence, it is said,
could lead to obsession. Perhaps, I am obsessed, but the fact remains
that this talented music director must be lauded for the metamorphosis
that he has brought about in the few years he has been in the industry.
It
is impairingly difficult for me to say that I am always pleased
with the tunes that are being churned out by the industry. It is
a commercial medium and I understand that people are here to make
money and to be in the business of reaping the returns on their
investments. But, one must also realize that there exists a passion
that defies fiscal boundaries (though music made from the heart
could be commercially successful many a time). One must remember
that they are in the industry for a purpose and that purpose is
to entertain the people, for it is the people who ultimately determine
the success or the failure of an enterprise. I am glad that there
are still some intelligent people like Mr. Patnaik walking those
grounds of loyalty and I hope to see him add many more feathers
to his already vibrant hat.
Cheers
!!!
