Openletter to Guna Sekhar

Dear Sri Guna Sekhar,

I am an avid Telugu filmgoer. I happened to see your latest film 'Okkadu' last week and I liked it immensely. I think you have done a wonderful job in the direction and screenplay departments.

All the same, I think there have been certain slip-ups vis-a-vis the passport and the American visa episodes. These should have been dealt with, with the same professional élan as the rest of the film. In fact, both these could have been totally avoided and substituted by something else.

On this occasion, I wish to point out about a malady afflicting the present day Telugu film directors like you. You people seem to be under the impression that the Telugu audience wants non-Telugu speaking girls as heroines. Some of these people like Bhumika, Arthi, her sister, Sriya, Sada etc., who are endowed with sensual bodies but minimal acting talent are preferred over native girls like Laya. I am yet to see any one of these girls exhibiting serious acting capabilities. Of course, they can run around and do some crazy dances with the heroes in foreign locales. A beautiful actress like Roja has to go into the Tamil cinema, after being neglected by the Telugu film industry. The fault for all this lies with not only the directors, but the heroes and producers as well. For heaven's sake, please bring in native acting talent.

You will be surprised to know that your film 'Okkadu' has become a hit NOT because of Bhumika but IN SPITE of her.
