Arjun (Nikhil) is an animator. He takes his friend (Vennela Kishore) who is possessed to Kerala. During his stay over there he gets close to another tourist Amala (Hebah Patel). After a few days of roaming around, she disappears without giving a clue. He finds that the girl he is looking for is dead long back. After he returns to the city, he gets a call from the same girl. Rest of the story is all about how the perplexed Arjun solves the mystery.
Actors: Nikhil has been selecting different subjects since Swamy Ra Ra (barring Sankarabharanam). This film too has some interesting elements. He has done well in crucial scenes where he has to deal with the ghost. Hebah Patel is alright as a cheerful girl. Nandita Shwetha is pretty good as a woman who is possessed. Her traditional looks and apt make-up also helped it. Sathya and Sudarshan Reddy provide ample entertainment in the second half. Though Vennela Kishore had a lengthy role, he has only two scenes that’s worth his time (train seat conversation in 1st half and confrontation with ghost in the second half). Praveen did a small role. Raja Ravindra performs well. Tanikella Bharani and Pruthvi shine in their roles. Viva Harsha entertains in a small role.
Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the film is interesting. Screenplay is good towards interval and in the second half. The love episodes and vennela kishore possession sequences are not dealt well which resulted in boredom in the first half. However, things fall in place in the second half and entertainment works well. He has connected all the missing dots with a convincing flashback. Barring a couple of things (flashback accident & why Kishore is taken to Kerala when he is not possessed), the entire film looks logical. Director has differentiated this film from other horror films by having the positive love as the basic thread that runs story.
Other departments: Music by Shekar Chandra is good. Chirunama melody is good. I like the way ‘mastudhi life’ is ended with the dialogue - ‘you can't have a lengthy one for a pathos song’. Background music is good. Cinematography by Sai Sriram helps to create horror feel (liked the way shadows of grills on shown on floor using a moving camera when Nikhil searches for the disappeared girl in a dark room using torch app in his cell phone). Art direction is interesting. Dialogues by Abburi Ravi are good in second half. Production values are decent.
Analysis: First half of the film uninteresting except for last 15 minutes, where the real story is revealed. Second half is engaging and has ample entertainment. Plus points are Nikhil, screenplay in second half and entertainment in second half. On the flipside, major part of first half is not good as director didn’t succeed in getting love episode and casual comedy scenes right. Another best thing about this film is that there are no gory Holloween faces which we usually see in horror films. Nikhil who has been delivering decent films recently doesn’t disappoint you with Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada if you don't mind an unengaging first half.
