Review

Story
Chitti Babu (Venkatesh), a bank employee, loses his job, while his wife (Srinidhi Shetty) is burdened with mounting debts. His daughter (Yuvina Parthavi) is in love with a bike mechanic, and his son (Raja Prajwal) suffers from a heart condition. Just when the family is struggling to make ends meet, Chitti Babu wins a ₹100 crore lottery, turning him into an overnight celebrity as his reels go viral on social media.

However, the viral reel catches the attention of a dacoit gang led by Chandan (Udaybir Sandhu), who plots to kill the family and rob their newfound fortune. The rest of the story unfolds over one fateful night as the gang arrives to execute its plan.

Artists Performance

It’s a cakewalk for Venkatesh, who delivers a very likeable performance. Srinidhi Shetty fits the role of his wife perfectly and does a good job. Raja Prajwal and Yuvina are also good in their respective roles. However, it is Satya who steals the show with his hilarious performances in two key episodes - during the robbery and the police station interrogation. Raghubabu is thoroughly enjoyable in his lengthy role. Nara Rohit is convincing as a sincere cop, while Rao Ramesh’s portrayal of a corrupt cop offers some variety, thanks to the dialogues written for his character. Nivetha Pethuraj, on the other hand, has a rather insignificant role.

Story - screenplay - direction:

Trivikram ventures into dark comedy, blending violence and killings with the seemingly innocent world of a middle-class family, much like we see in Korean films. The first half is well set up, culminating in an unexpected interval twist. This raises expectations of a strong backstory and motive, along with an engaging three-pronged narrative - the family trying to escape, the killers chasing them, and the police investigating the case.

However, the actual motive and backstory feel rather underwhelming compared to the impact created by the interval episodes. Trivikram ensures that the film has regular doses of comedy, with the police interrogation scene standing out, thanks to Satya’s characterisation and performance. On the flip side, the train fight sequence fails to make an impact, while the emotional moments feel artificial.

There is a lack of detailing, and logic takes a back seat throughout the film. Even though it is meant to be an entertainer, audiences still expect basic logic and believability. Selling and buying lottery tickets is illegal, withdrawing ₹100 crore in cash from a bank is practically impossible, there is no justification for the characters resorting to such a brutal act at the interval, and the police investigation comes across as illogical and lazy. Entertainment is no excuse for overlooking basic logic.

The climax somewhat makes up for these shortcomings with its explanations and philosophical undertones. Trivikram attempts an A Aa-style ending, with Rao Ramesh delivering philosophically tinged, humorous dialogues.

Overall, Trivikram partly satisfies audiences with his trademark comedy. However, one expects a much stronger script and more effective narration from a director of his stature.

Other departments: Ravi K. Chandran’s cinematography is decent. Thaman’s songs are a letdown, with none of the tracks making a lasting impression. This is particularly disappointing coming from the successful trio of Trivikram, Haarika & Hassine, and Thaman, who delivered superb music for Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. The background score is average, although the BGM in the interrogation scene stands out. Trivikram’s dialogues are excellent, as expected. A. S. Prakash’s art direction is adequate, while Naveen Nooli’s editing is alright. Haarika & Hassine Creations deliver excellent production values.

Analysis: Aadarsha Kutumbam has a promising setup, a good interval bang with an unexpected twist, and a satisfying climax. The film also has its share of humour. However, the second half could have been much more engaging, with stronger emotional moments. Better music would have further enhanced the viewing experience. The narrative also feels somewhat ad hoc in the second half, affecting the overall flow. On the whole, Aadarsha Kutumbam House No 47 works well on the comedy front. You may watch it.
