Open letter to RP Patnaik

Patnaik garu,

I am a huge fan of yours. I think your music often presents a different facet of Indian music that is not often explored, with the folky songs thrown into each album and just a unique style altogether. But I have one complaint. What happened to the days when you were the music director FIRST and the singer SECOND?

I feel like the quality of your music has deteriorated because you have failed to find the correct singer to bring out the best in each song. I agree that your voice is appropriate for many songs, but let's face it, no singer's voice can work for every single song. In fact, I have to say that even as much as I enjoy SPB, I'm glad that there is now a great deal of diversity in vocalists for Telugu music. Even as good as he is, I do believe that others could have sung many of his songs just as well as he has, or possibly better.

Take a look at "Gunnamaami" from Nuvvu Nenu and "Evaru Emanna" from Jayam. Although they have exactly the same great composition, I feel as if SP Charan definitely suited this song better than your voice. Of course there are several songs where I do agree that your voice is the best choice, such as "Priyatama" from Jayam or any of your folk songs. But the audience needs variety; we need every song to be of the highest possible quality.

I hate reading in reviews or posted on message boards that your composition is good and the singing is what keeps the song from being a bigger hit, or that you've lost your magic altogether. I think you are INCREDIBLY talented, and I would hate to see anything happen to your career because of something that could be easily altered. I wish you all the best in the future, and I look forward to hearing a lot more of your music. Thank you
