Comedy director Siva Nageswara Rao (Money fame) has directed a love story titled 'Ninu Kalisaka' for Usha Kiron banner. This movie is releasing on 2 October. Idlebrain.com met Siva Nageswara Rao for chitchat. Here are the excerpts -
What is your postmortem on your last two directorial ventures Photo and Bhukailas?
Photo: Basically it was a horror movie and we didn't publicize it as a horror movie. Photo was also a victim of mis-casting. People who watched it as a Siva Nageswara Rao movie didn't like it. Probably they expected comedy in it. People who watched it as a normal movie liked it.
Bhu Kailas: Though it got divide talk, Bhu Kailas collected reasonably at box office for the budget it was made on.
You were in industry for over 3 decades. Why are you attempting youth love story at this stage of your career?
My first youth love story was 'Mr & Mrs Sailaja Krishna Murthy' which was released around 5 years ago. It was a decent movie, but the producer didn't promote it. I always feel that promoting a film is as important as making a good film. Usha Kiron Movies is the ideal banner for promoting movies that has no stars. For Ninu Kalisaka, producer is the hero of the movie.
What is the story of Ninu Kalisaka?
Ninu Kalisaka shows the difference between love and friendship between two adolescents of opposite sex. It also shows the fickle-mindedness of the youth in current scenario. There are no villains to resist love in this movie. The enemy of lovers in this film is their fickle-mindedness and materialistic attitude.
Tell us about casting?
We are introducing two heroes (Santosh Samrat & Chaitanya Krishna), two heroines (Pia Bajpai and Deepa Sha) and twenty character artists. Krishnudu, MS Narayana, Siva Varma, Master Bharat and dance master Tarun play other important roles. I did a role of Prem Baba in this movie.
What is the reason for making your debut as an actor with this movie?
The character of Prem Baba is vital in this movie. He runs a hangout place for youth called 'Love/2 Coffee Day'. Prem Baba is good at predicting the stability of lovers and giving at love tips. This special character needs an actor of Amitab's stature. It is not possible to cast him for our budget. I was screen testing for new artist. My unit members and writers asked me to try it out once. I had a special get-up and acted in front of camera. I got confidence in my acting abilities after seeing my performance on the monitor. Everybody liked my work on screen. And the credit goes to the characterization.
What are the highlights of Ninu Kalisaka?
Titanic ballet: The hero in this movie does English ballet as his hobby. I conceptualized the Titanic story as a stage ballet. This ballet tells the story of Titanic without using boat, water and special effects. Josh and Sekhar executed this song.
Music: Music of this movie is another highlight. Sunil Kashyap who rendered a song for AR Rehman's Jodha Akbar composed nice tunes for Ninu Kalisaka. He also sang two songs. Pranavi rendered three songs. Gayatri and Sai Sivaji sung a song each. Sunil also gave good background music.
Photography: BL Sanjay whose father Loknath worked as a cinemtography for Andamaina Anubhavam and Maro Charitra is the cinematographer of BNinu Kalisaka. Entire film has rich visuals.
What is the conflict point in this love story of two pairs?
There are two girls and two boys. There will be suspense till the end of the movie about which girl gets which boy.
You started your career with comedies and now shifted to love story?
I feel that there are nava rasas in each and every one of us. Srungaram (love), Hasyam (comedy) and Karuna (sentiment) are the major emotions that tickle us. I like comedy and love in equal proportions. I know my craft and I am confident that I can do justice to a love story.
What is your next film?
There are 3 scripts with me. I have to finalize one as per the taste of the producer.
