Story
Duvvada Jagannadham (Allu Arjun) is a brahmin boy who belongs to a family of food caterers. Though he is traditionally brought up, there is another angle to him. As a kid, he takes law into hands and punishes them. A police officer (Murali Sharma) encourages him. Jagannadham makes an alias of DJ and starts punishing wrongdoers with the guidance of police officer. Royyala Naidu (Rao Ramesh) is a real estate tycoon and he scams middle class people for 9000 crores using a benami company. Rest of the story is about how DJ kill the people behind real estate scam.
Artists Performance
Actors: Allu Arjun is excellent as an youngster with two shades. One as a traditional joyful brahmin chef and the other as a mysterious killer. He has shown terrific emotion in pre-climax fight where he asks ‘pedda sir evaru’. His dance movements are extremely graceful. Pooja Hegde is very glamorous and performed really well. Rao Ramesh does his job with perfection. Subbaraju is hilarious as a delusional baddie. Murali Sharma is good. Vennela Kishore gets an entertaining role. Vidyullekha Raman makes her presence felt even for a small role. Prabhakar is impressive in the pre-climax fight. Tanikella Bharani, Chandra Mohan, Pavitra Lokesh, Rajitha and Rallapalli are aptly cast.
.Technical departments
Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the film appears thin and lacks proper foundation. A hero becoming killer at a tender age for the sake of society doesn’t look convincing. Since the narration is linear, you don’t find screenplay engaging enough till halfway point in second half. With a twist in second half, the screenplay becomes engaging and it becomes an emotionally charged film till pre-climax. The director changes gears and takes the film into entertainment mode in climax by using the delusions of Subbaraju character. Director Harish Shankar excels in entertainment and action scenes. But, he should have taken care in writing department to get audiences root for hero. The romance thread in the film appears cliched (heroine getting back to the rejected hero just like that). The mannerisms of hero (sabhya samajam and o-asya-obhya) are overused.
Other departments: Music by Devi Sri Prasad is good and my favorite song on screen is Asmaika. Mass songs (Box Baddalaipoddi and Seeti Maar) were also pictured well. Cinematography by Ayananka Bose is pleasing to eyes. Dialogues by Harish Shankar are good. Though double entendres, a couple of dialogues entertained crowds thoroughly. Editing is alright. Production values are good.
Analysis: Duvvada Jagannadham looks more like a Shankar kind film with added entertainment, but minus proper foundation in story. Plus points of the film are Allu Arjun’s superb performance, Pooja Hegde, Subbaraju’s delusional comedy, dialogues and action episodes (especially pre-climax where director mixes emotion in the fight). But, the climax is in lighter vein and it’s a kind of experiment. The likability of the film depends on how audiences gets convinced by the climax.
