Nagesh Yada and Praveen Reddy Nalla are NRIs settled in Australia. Both of them are dual citizens with a passion for cinema. They joined hands together to produce a film titled Pappu with Krishnudu by introducing Sapan Pasuparthi as director. Pappu is due for the release on 25 June. Here are the excerpts –

Background
Nagesh went to Australia in 2000 and Praveen went there in 1998. Nagesh was there to do MS where are Praveen went there for a job. Both of us knew eachother in India as we are TT players who represented our regions in AP. We also represented our university for Victoria in local TT tournaments in Australia. Praveen Reddy’s father produced a film titled ‘Ee Katha Maarindi’ in 1976. Praveen has a chain of restaurants in Australia where as Nagesh own Petro stations. Both of us are passionate about movies and decided to enter film production. We have been listening to many scripts and finally liked the script narrated by Sapan Pasumarthi. He assisted Mohan Krishna Indraganti for Ashta Chemma movie. He came with a bound script and gave us budget estimate. We found the right actors Krishudu and Subbaraju. We gave a casting call in idlebrain.com for heroine and got Dipika Parmar through it. Aarya is the name of Praveen’s daughter and we named our banner ‘Aarya Entertainment’ on her.

What kind of movie is Pappu?
Pappu has more to Krishudu than films like Vinayakudu, Oy and YMC projected. It is a humor flick with nice entertainment that is going to work for box office.

Pappu music is met with good response?
Yes. It has gone excellent response. Debutant music director Phani Kalyan (protégé of AR Rahman) came up with fabulous job. I am basically a music lover and it helped me in choosing the best work from him.

How difficult is it to make a small-budget movie and releasing it?
I don’t like to call a movie as small-budgeted movie or big-budgeted movie. They should be categorized as good and bad films. Our director Sapan made the movie within the budget we planned for. Krishnudu has a reasonable market if we package the movie well. We have sold the rights of Andhra and Ceded. We are releasing it on our own in Nizam though we got an attractive offer. Overseas rights are sold out. There is a pretty exciting offer for Satillite which we will close at any moment. It’s comfortable for a small producer to make movies if we keep budget under control and package them well.

How are you planning publicity of the movie?
We reserved 20% of the budget to publicity. The hoardings and flexes are all over the urban areads as the release approached. We partnered with the right people in various fields to get maximum mileage.

Are you putting any efforts to control piracy?
Since we have knowledge about how law works in Australia, we are making sure that piracy is strongly discouraged over there. The government of Australia is going to fine 200k dollars as penalty for the guy who is selling pirated DVDs. We are negotiating with concerned body regarding the same. The ticket price for a Telugu movie in Australia is 15/18 dollars. We are going to screen Pappu for 10/12 dollars only.

What are your future projects?
We have three films under planning. It was a good opportunity to learn about the craft by producing Pappu movie. Our next movie will feature stars and it will have Australian background.
