Open letter on Sirivennela Seetarama Sastry

My name is Archana . I live in U.S.A . Today I want to tell you something that has been on mind for a long time. When I was a kid I always debated within myself amongst the importance of Lyrics and Composition of telugu songs. Though I never came to pick the one among those two, here is something I would like to share with telugu song lovers like me:

I would like to give a standing ovation to Sri. Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry .The fist song he penned lyrics for that really impressed me is 'Aadibhikshuvu' from the movie Sirivennela . For those who never listened to it or don't remember it, please do it right away. The wonderful way he described traits of Lord Shiva made great impact on my mind ( even though I am not that of a believer in god) . That was when I was a kid. So, as I grew up I had a close relation to every song he wrote and to name a few , 'kothagaa rekkalochchenaa' from Swarnakamalam . And in each song I have this favourite verse like 'Veduru loki odigindi kuduru leni gaali, eduru leka edigindi madhura gaana keli' .This is my favourite verse so far. The depth in each line is evitable in this song.

Ila cheppukuntoo pothe enno geethaalu. I was really interested in Telugu language inspired by these lyrics to the extent that I even thought of doing Ph.D in telugu literature. But because of some other reasons I ended up to being a Software Engineer. So, I choose this moment to share my views about telugu music with "kala Aaraadhakulu " like me.

Here comes another Machchu Tunaka :"nigga deesi adugu ee siggu leni janaanni Aggi thoti kadugu ee samaaja jeevachchavaani". Is there any telugu person who can say that he/she never felt a bit of guilt after listening to it? This song really made me think about the society we are in making us responsible for the way it is. Friends , don't you think so:? Answer this with a hand on your hearts. Then came the movie Sindhooram and the song "Artha sataabdapu anyaayaanni" which is some sort of a prequel to the song mentioned before. I wonder if he made the connection between those two.

The most recent one I felt upon listening to that " This must be Sirivennela's work" is , "Naalo nenu lene lenu" from "Avunu Vaalliddaroo Ishtapaddaaru" . I really go into a trance listening to lyrics like this. I would like to know what he really feels like writing such powerful, romantic & cynical lyrics at the same time. He has this amazing capability of looking into a person's or an entire society's mind and describing it through his lyrics.

And last but not the least I would like to mention the song "Ne tolisaariga kala kannadee nuvve kadaa" from Santosham . Believe me this song takes me back to the days when I was in love ( With the person I am married to now). I wonder how a male can write about a girl's mind like that . I would really like to ask him . Maybe if I get a chance to meet him on my next trip to India.
