Jeeva (Allu Sirish) falls in love with Jo (Surbhi) at first site. He impresses her and both are in love. In a freak coincidence, Jeeva realises that the incidents happened in their love life also happened in the lives of Srini (Srinivas Avasarala) and Swathi (Seerat Kapoor). Jeeva googles about it and finds about parallel life. There is a difference of year between them. The present of Srini is the future of Jeeva. Jeeva decides to fight it out and alter his future when something unpleasant happens in the life of Srini. Rest of the story is all about how a determined Jeeva challenges the destiny and changes the fate.
Actors: Allu Sirish is evolving from movie to movie. He has chosen a content oriented film this time and added a bit of heroism to his characterization. He looks good and performed well. Surbhi looks nice with a mature look in this film. Srinivas Avasarala gives another natural performance as a caring lover/husband. Seerat Kapoor has done a role where there is a lot of scope for performance. Dasari Arun Kumar (son of Dasari Narayana Rao) plays a vital role and he is nice. Somebody else dubbed for his character. Praveen who is generally used for comedy roles is given a character role and he performs with conviction. Satya steals the show with entertainment in limited screen time. JP does a small character of a professor where he talks about connecting dots, looking at larger picture and parallel lives. Rohini lives it up in a couple of scenes where she talks about the invisible power in human beings.
Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the film has an interesting concept of parallel life. What makes this film interesting is the screenplay. VI Anand has taken a lot of time to establish the plot of the film. Heroine observing the lives of Srini couple from her apartment reminds us of Alfred Hitchcock’s film ‘Rear Window’ in which hero resolves a murder mystery by being bedridden in his apartment and just by looking at the happenings in another apartment using his binoculars and through a rear window. Screenplay is very good in the second half of the film where he keeps providing twists at regular intervals. Director has also used each and every character to progress the story. A comedian like Satya is used so well that he keeps furthering the story whenever he appears in the film. The climax of the film appears to be far stretched by having overdose of heroic fights and sentiment. VI Anand should have come up with a more interesting love story for the main leads (as it’s shown twice on two couples). The emotional connect in the latter part of second half is well established. The first half of the film is not exciting (that’s a bane for thrillers as initial part is used to set the plot up and to plant the seeds).
Other departments: Music by Mani Sharma is excellent. He sets the mood up for the film with his background music during title cards. It’s flawless and reminds us of Alfred Hitchcock’s thrillers. His songs are also good (though the first song is a speedbreaker). Cinematography by Shyam K Naidu is impeccable. He gives it a thriller look with his lighting and visuals. Dialogues penned by Abburi Ravi are good. Fights composed are effective. DI and visual effects are satisfactory. Editing is good. Art direction is appropriate and he has chosen a nice looking apartment complex as most of the story takes place in that gated community. Production values by Lakshmi Narasimha Entertainments banner are excellent.
Analysis: First half of the film is little slow. Plot thickens by interval. Second half is nice with good screenplay. Plus points of the film are lead actors, unique plot point, screenplay, second half and background music. On the flipside, the love story which forms the basis is not exciting and the first half is very slow. Climax of the film appear overstretched. On a whole, Okka Kshanam is a decent thriller with nice screenplay! You may watch it if you like thrillers!
