Nishanti got trained herself in film institute and worked for a few films in direction department. She became an actress by accident. Here are the excerpts chitchat -

Background:
I was born in Eluru where my grandparents stay and was brought up in Chennai. After completing my B.com, I went to Bombay to do a course in Direction. After which, I went on to work as an assistant director with directors Suresh Krissna, Nagesh Kukunoor, Prakash Rao Kovelamudi...

How did you get an opportunity to work for lbw?
After working as a creative director in an ad agency where I gained more experience by directing many short documentaries and TVCs, I developed my own script and was in the process of meeting producers to pitch it. Also, I wanted to shoot a short film to fill the stop-gap till I eventually did find them. That was when, through a studio which was associated both with team LBW and my short, I met Praveen. I was reluctant to act at first but this seemed like a good opportunity for me to launch myself back into films and I was also tempted to be a part of an independent venture. It seemed like Praveen and I shared similar ideals when it came to movie making (to make movies that we would like to see, make a genre/ niche movie etc...)

What is the character u r playing in the movie and explain about it
I played the part of Anu who is a naive, shy young girl used to being in a protected shell and who breaks out of it when she meets a few people who influence her decisions. I felt Praveen, knowingly or unknowingly casted each of us close to our characters. I felt that I could relate to Anu because I am by nature a self-conscious , reserved person who takes time to get out my guarded self. Although acting as such wasn’t very easy for me, being the part was.

What kind of movies do you like and how do you want to model yourself in the future?
I like simple, emotional dramas and I aspire to be a director like some of my mentors (Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Charlie Chaplin...). I would consider it lucky to be given an opportunity to make movie that I would like to see. The way the trend of our industry is going, I don’t see it as far-fetched dream.

Tell us about some interesting/funny incidents happen while shooting?
My first scene was to meet Rishi with a group of friends. Rishi, bowled over by Anu goes over-board in trying to impress her. Not knowing completely about Siddu at that time, having met him only then, I was taken aback by him. For the first few days of our rehearsals, I was not sure if it was Rishi or Siddhu acting that way. Later, of course we laughed about it

Acting for me was hilarious experience. Although behind the camera I can be talkative and myself, I would initially freeze up in front of it. I just would not know what to do with my hands for example or how to react when someone else has a line. I remember this one time, I kept nodding my head a little too much while listening to Jai. The whole shot was done and Praveen calls it a cut and not wanting to scare/ offend me came up to me and put as politely as he could. “That was ok, but it would be better if you stopped bobbing your head so much”

What are your future projects?
I am pursuing my direction career right now. I started meeting producers again and if all goes well, I should take up directing my debut next. Acting is a secondary interest, and if it does not come in the way of my direction, I would not mind doing roles that interest me like in LBW.
