Poorna is a Vizag youngster who is passionate about cricket. Anshu (Divyansha Kaushik) is daughter of a Navy officer in Vizag. Both of them fall in love. Anshu is forcibly taken away to North India. As he still occupied with the thoughts of Anshu, he is married to Sravani (Samantha) who adulates him from her teenage time. Rest of the story is all about how angry and alcoholic Poorna is made into sober family man by the turn of events.
Actors: Naga Chaitanya enacted the role of a guy who is going through a lot of pain because of the lost girl. He has to show anger and indifference to the people who loves him the most. He has done perfect justice to the role and movie works because Naga Chaitanya performs such a pivotal role very convincingly. Samantha looks good as a working wife of Naga Chaitanya. It’s a different role with good scope for histrionics and she is perfect. Divyansha Kaushik is good as lover of hero. Rao Ramesh plays the role of hero’s father and he succeeds in getting his act right. Posani Krishna Murali gives some comic relief and he has an important role too. Subbaraju plays the role of a baddie well. Suhas who did the role of Naga Chaitanya’s friend is a good find. His voice resembles us of Nani’s. Ravi Prakash does a positive role. Atul Kulkarni plays the role of navy officer. Baby Ananya excels as the solution to the problem of hero.
Story - screenplay - direction: After Ninnu Kori, Shiva Nirvana writes another script that dwells on love failure. There is a lot of depth and honesty in the characterisation of Poorna. The character is so well written that you sympathise with it despite alcoholism, anger, frustration, negativity and depressing nature. Direction is good. Screenplay is interesting. The technique used for joining past with present in police station scene before interval is impressive. The story of the film reminds us of love failures films like Mouna Ragam and Sagara Sangamam (hero coaching his lover’s daughter). However, narration of the film is very slow. Though the story is different from the ones that are made in Telugu, the contemporary feel is lacking.
Other departments: Songs scored by Gopi Sundar are good. Background music by Thaman is very good. Cinematographer by Vishnu Sharma is decent. Dialogues written by Shiva Nirvana are excellent. Editing is okay. Fights are well-choreographed. Production values by Shine Creations are very good.
Analysis: Story of Majili is about a guy who lost everything - love, career and hope. It’s a kind of negative and depressing character. It is also about a woman who loves her husband unconditionally despite knowing that she is not in his heart. Shiva Nirvana takes a triangular heartache film and writes in an effective manner. Plus points of the film are Naga Chaitanya, Samantha and Shiva’s writing. On the flipside, narration is very slow and lacks the zing we experience in love stories. On a whole, it’s a decent film and you may watch it.
