JD Chakri took a break for a while and is coming up with ‘Money Money more Money’ - a sequel to Money. Money III is releasing worldwide on 26 August. This film marks the return of the iconic character Khan Dada played by Brahmanandam. Here is chitchat with Chakri -

What went wrong with Ram Gopal Varma? You haven’t seen with him after RGV entered into Telugu film industry recently with Rakta Charitra and KSD Appalraju?
That's a long story. Contrary to the popular perception, we are still friends. I had problems with my producer Kiran Kumar who produced Homam and Siddham in my direction. I have finished these films on tight budgets and producer made a good profit. I was not given any remuneration and I was told that I would be sharing profits. Homam was made on 4.18 crores and the producer sold it to Dil Raju for 5.25 crores. He has also got around 1.3 crores as satellite rights. My next film Siddham was made on a budget of 1.09 crores as it was shot in just 19 days. The satellite rights of that film fetched 1.87 crores. There was an air of discomfort between me and Kiran after those two projects got over. Kiran started two back to back films in Ram Gopal Varma’s direction. Since we (me and Kiran) had discomfort among us, I decided not to be part of those projects and hence never went to those sets. That’s why you didn’t see me in RGV’s association in public in the last two years.

What were you doing post-Siddham?
I have worked in 3 Tamil projects and I was also preparing scripts.

Money III story line looks similar to your Hindi film Darwaja Bandh Rakhna?
I do agree that DBR is one of the inspirations for Money III. But there are around 50 other films that inspired me doing this movie.

How are you projecting Khan Dada that was created by RGV and Siva Nageswara Rao?
The Khan Dada character later becomes a real estate guy and he loses all his fortunes in the bust. He is in such a position that he can’t even pay the current bill. He lives with his 4-member family and he is encountered by a group of 4 kidnappers at his house. And the number of guests start increasing to 45. It is a comedy of errors.

You are also one of the producers. How is the experience of production?
I enjoy it. Bringing a titanic group like Reliance to fund the project is a huge bonus. Everything fell into place once Reliance was in.

What are your future projects?
I am currently working on a couple of scripts. My immediate project is a thriller called ‘Gaadpu’ that is set in USA backdrop. There is another film based on a real life story of an IAS officer with Goa backdrop. Gaadpu shoot will start immediately.
