Open letter on Filmfare Awards

Dear Editor

I fail to understand Filmfare changes it's stance to give awards as per their whims and fancies. It's straight, they have to give award to Shahrukh Khan, Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, Amitabh, Hrithik, Kapoors and their camp members like Abhishek, Rani, Priety, Kajol etc. I am not denying that they are talented people but there are always others who deserve them than these fellows.

This year Shahrukh got the best actor award for Swades which was a commercial disaster. So Filmfare's argument that they recognize commercial success do not apply here. Yet when shahrukh got an award for Dilwale over Aamir in Rangeela some time back the justification is DDLJ is a bigger commercial success. Karishma Kapoor (who can never act to save her life) gets a best actress award for FIZA over the Tabu for her much acclaimed act in Astitva, the reason commercial success. Tabu got critics award that year for Astitva. Worse that year Shahrukh won Critics award for hold your breath Mohabattein.

This year Pankaj Kapoor who won best supporting actor award for one of the best films of the year Maqbool don't even get a nomination and gets just a critics award. To add insult why a Kareena should get a critics award for Dev. She was hopeless in that movie. Worse she got it last year for Chameli. Yuva and Dev which got critic best movie awards are nothing compared to Morning Raga, Maqbool, Phir Milenge, Raghu Romeo and Meenaxi which deserved all critics awards. I still can't understand how Tabu can not get even a critics award for Maqbool. The Critics awards are pathetic but for award given to Pankaj Kapoor. If you want to recognize Mani give him an award for his earlier contributions like Iruvar and others but for Yuva no way. If you want to promote Kareena institute a award for Best Kisser (off Screen) and recognize her but don't assault our sensibilities atleast in Critics Awards. Some time back they gave Manisha best Critics award for Company (can't guess for what). Ridiculous!

Even in best actress category I think Shipla shetty is a better choice for her sensitive portrayal in Phir Milenge over Rani. Rani was best in Black but not in Hum TUM. Veer Zaara Best film and Hum Tum Best direction (don't even talk about it).

Abhishek is fantastic in YUVA but I can't see any one walking away with the best supporting actor award other than Pankaj Kapoor for Maqbool. Rani deseverd the best supporting actress though for Yuva but again it is a commercial disaster.

Guys at filmfare should not make a mockery of awards and talent in this way. In one note it's one of the worst awards announced this year starting from nominations. They should stop giving awards if they can't give them fairly. Actors like Aamir care a damn for shit awards like this. And year after year I understand that's true. These awards are good source of Prime time telecast and nothing apart from them.
