Open letter to Siddharth

Hi Siddharth,

At the outset let me congratulate you on the success of Bommarillu. I hope that the young parents in the audiences take the message to heart. Many parents are so busy preventing the children from failing that they never let the child succeed on their own.

However, I did not write this to talk about the movie. This is all about you. When I saw your earlier films, my reaction was there comes yet another young hero in the same old romantic mold. Rang de Basanti had me rethinking that opinion.

But your performance in Bommarillu took me by complete surprise. I do not believe anyone could have performed that role any better. There was not a single moment in the movie that felt like you were acting.

Sidhu's conflict between the respect and love for the father and need to have control over his own life was brought out flawlessly. Your victory lies in the fact that nowhere in the movie did we hate the father. In the hands of a lesser actor, the movie would have turned into a father vs. son conflict. But you ensured that we empathized with both the father and the son. That is quite a feat.

The sequence where Sidhu goes to the office was heartbreaking. The frustration at not being able to contribute, switching to absolute unswerving loyalty to the dad was amazingly well portrayed.

The scene where Haasini explains her reasons for leaving was tremendous too. The stunned acceptance of her decision, because Siddhu totally agrees with her assessment was fabulously done - I am running out of superlatives to use

And then of course your climax - someone said it was the finest display of acting possible, and I totally agree with him.

Most reviews have been raving about Haasini and Genelia did a great job. But her role and character was incidental to the story. But I think her character got credibility because it was such a pronounced anti-thesis of Sidhu. A less convincing Sidhu would have totally undermined Haasini.

To my mind the performance that held the movie together was Sidhu all the way. Take a bow Siddhartha - it is quite an achievement.

And of course your singing is icing on the cake.

I am a converted fan and I apologize if I spelt your name wrong. I saw the movie a couple of weeks back in Hyderabad and am going to watch it again on the other side of the world in Texas on the weekend.

Congratulations- after this performance you have a lot live up to. I sincerely hope that we will be able to see you in more performance oriented films going forward.
