Open Letter to Telugu Movie Exhibitors in USA

This is with regards to the increasing price of telugu movie tickets in the US. The recent Chiru movie (Stalin) was screened for $12 and $13 per ticket in some of the theaters in the US . Though I am a hard-core Chiru fan and would like to watch Chiru movies, first-day first-show, I am totally against the increasing ticket prices as it would have a detrimental affect in the long run. If the ticket prices increase further, then fewer people will come to the theater in future.

In the recent times we have seen an increase in the scope of Indian Cinema worldwide and especially in the US . Hindi, Telugu and Tamil films have done extremely well in 2006. Looking at this trend, some over zealous exhibitors have increased the ticket prices thus burdening the telugu movie-goer. There is no organization in the US to control the ticket prices of Telugu movies and hence this cheating continues.

The typical ticket price of a telugu movie in the US is $8 and if it is a big hero movie then it is $10/ticket. But in recent times the prices have been increased to a max of $13/ticket. For someone who watches telugu movies on a regular basis, it would be an extra burden. We do not want a few people to pay more and watch telugu movies, we want more and more people to watch telugu movies in the theater rather than on a rented DVD.

I have recently watched the Hindi movie, DON in a nearby theater for $8/ticket. The theater was packed and to my surprise more than half of the people in the theater were telugu people, but I do not find the same telugu people present for a telugu movie.

Top 10 reasons why most telugu people do not watch a telugu movie in the theater in US.

1. Rising ticket prices.
2. Bad seating and horrible condition of the theater.
3. The restrooms are dirty and small.
4. Hindi and English movies are cheaper to watch in good theaters.
5. Air-conditioning is never turned on.
5. Free Drinking water is not available in the theater.
6. The quality of food-items sold at the theater is bad.
7. Not enough parking is available at the theater.
8. Credit/Bank cards are not accepted.
9. Ill-treatment of the patrons.
10. Small screens.

The point of this exercise is to make the producers/distributors/exhibitors understand the full potential of telugu movies. The revenues of the telugu movies in US can be increased tremendously by taking care of the above said items. Just imagine what would happen if every telugu-speaking person watched telugu movies in the theater in US, the range is immense. So let us make it easy for all the telugu people to come to the theater and have a good time.

Please do not increase the ticket prices for the forthcoming movies.

Note to all telugu movie lovers, it is high time that someone takes action against the atrocities of these exhibitors who are cashing on our love for telugu movies and minting money on our weakness. Please convey the same to everyone and pressurize the exhibitor in your city to reduce the ticket prices.
